    PC on 24/7

Hard disks also have a certain lifetime (number of spin up/down cycles), so turning your PC on and off all the time, you put the HD at risk also. Not if its doing things overnight!

are afternoon and night classes usually a lot smaller?

There is a capacity, but not all classes fill up, not all subjects have hundreds of students, and not everyone shows up. I've been in classes with ~100 enrolled students in CLB7 (old CLB7, not the flashy new refurbished CLB7) and there were 7 people showing up for the lectures.

Or you're easier to spot if you fall asleep all the time. I still feel embarrassed walking past some lecturers who say hi to me, and I'm always asleep in the lecture up the back in a class of 10.

    PC on 24/7

Get a router? :p I have two PCs here that are on 24/7. One is a file server - its only a PIII 733 so power consumption shouldn't be a big a deal, the other is an AIO E1400 thats a development server so its configuration is minimalistic too. I bought one of those consumption meters that...

Thats brilliant! Its a top suggestion to the OP asking for advice on what AV programs are good to use! The best thing you can do is to have a virus and not even know it :headbang:

Need a new wireless router, 802.11abgn

Whats the router model? Maybe theres a good firmware upgrade or 3rd party firmware for it that can save you some $$. My WRTG54G used to crash whenever something like BT left too many connections hanging and needed constant rebooting - changing to 3rd party firmware solved that.
