LOL, besides the fact that she's a woman and American (gender and racial prejudice) - why don't you like her?
Because she is the epitome of all that is wrong with the NSW labor party.

Wind back the clock five minutes and rejoice! Those nasty right wing powerbrokers have been defeated! The allegiances of NSW labor have shifted and now there are two earnest and genuine human beings at the helm of the troubled party who are beginning the road to recover today. Reba Meaghar and Michael Costa have been banished from whence they came and Nathan Rees is riding on his brilliant white stallion along the road to victory. But wait! He’s suddenly paralyzed, why? Because some idiot put a cart before his horse!

You would do well to consider that after replacing Brendan Nelson as leader of the Federal Liberal Party Malcolm Turnbull enjoyed an opinion poll boost, as did Tony Abbott after replacing Malcolm Turnbull. On the Labor side of things Kim Beazley enjoyed an opinion poll boost after succeeding Mark Latham and after succeeding Beazley, Kevin Rudd himself enjoyed one. Then of course Morris Iemma received one after replacing Bob Carr as Premier, Brumby received one after replacing Bracks and yes when Rees was handed the reigns he was initially much more popular than Iemma. But of course this time it’s different, this time Keneally truly does have that certain something that makes voters tick. Bullshit!

Kristina Keneally will go down as the least popular Premier in history and she should. She represents everything about politics which people despise and mistrust. After the fanfare that followed Rees and Tebbuts apparent defeat of the factions in 2008 her Premiership has been one of the most tragic steps backward in the great parties history. When Rees entered the fray as a Premiership candidate it was the stuff legends were made of: The humble intellectual who worked hard at his job was noticed by some disenchanted men and women and a few weeks later he was undertaking the grueling task of smashing the corrupt bureaucracy that plagued his party.

No greater contrast could be drawn than that between Keneally and her predecessor. Keneally is the two faced, charisma loaded apparatchik that encapsulates all that is despised and mistrusted in modern day politics. Whilst Rees fought like a lion against those who wanted to preserve the current system to protect their privileges Keneally was busy making sure they knew just how little hostility they would receive from her if she ever succeeded him.

Keneally didn’t wake up one morning and find a message on her answering machine from some colleagues begging her to nominate for the party leadership. Her ascent was a three phase operation: Boost her own media profile, beat John Dellabosca and Frank Sartor to the candidature position within her own faction and finally broker her faction into a dominant position in the caucus. She got where she is by cutting deals with people like Tripodi, Obeid, Sartor and Roozendale and believe you me they have most definitely given her a specific mandate.

Anyone on this page knows I am a progressive if ever there was one but this woman is a nasty, deceitful piece of work in stark contrast to the much derided leader of the opposition who for so long refused to nominate for the party leadership until he could do it on his terms without a line of political debt to repay to powerbrokers. He might be uninspiring but he is a genuine person with substance and will do far more good for New South Wales than Kenneally ever could.

A preemptive fuck you to anyone who tl;dr's me.

Nielsen says 50:50. I should disclose that I was polled for edition so at least one of the results is bullshit. My humble opinion which should for the large part be disregarded is that Abbott is getting a bit of a reward for having a go, sticking to his guns, standing for something etc which is laudable but I doubt they genuinely want him to be prime minister, and now that it looks like he might actually do it they'll scurry back to Rudd before too long.

On a side point, Rudd has been blasted for going into panic mode but he's not the only one anymore. Turn on the tv and its hard to avoid Gillard, Swan, Wong, Roxon, Arbib etc just reciting party lines, deflecting questions, being extraordinarily non committal. Thank god for Lindsay Tanner and Tanya Plibersek or we wouldn't understand anything, and yet their seats are now at risk because of government tentativeness.

Both Essential Research and the Morgan phone poll are now also showing 50-50.

Hmph, my analysis remaisn unchanged. I'd note but that it's rare for Essential and Morgan to be getting about the same as NP and Nielsen, the former tends to give labor a few points advantage/latter tends to give the coalition a few points head start.

It's in no way over for Rudd - it's reasonably normal for a first term government approaching election day.

That said, I wouldn't mind if he were deposed. Preferably by Gillard rather than Abbott.

Both today's Galaxy and Newspoll say 50:50.

The polls are being spun in the media with a pro gillard leadership slant.

One thing is clear, Rudd is fast becoming damaged goods. He needs a circuit breaker before the perception takes hold.

There won't be any leadership change this close to a general election and the longer he remains as leader the more voters Tony Abbott is going to scare. If as I believe Rudd gets re-elected with an increased majority, then for a few months atleast everyone will say "how silly we were to doubt him". Some have suggested with a strong re-election under his belt Rudd and a greens balance of power he might get some confidence and leave leader of the opposition mode behind. If so, it really depends on what the liberals throw at him but if not then I think 18 months out from his re-election he'll start looking very useless amongst his cabinet colleagues.

On a side note a few people have noted that Julie Bishop wants to campaign against Julia Gillard and have been throwing about theories why that might be. They haven't however given mine much thought, that Bishop intends to be the one who would take on a Gillard premiership in 2013. But why would the ALP make Gillard of all people leader? Surely they aren't that silly or am I giving he factions too much credit.

Julie Bishop is horrible to watch on TV and in parliament. All she cares about is fucking up Gillard. It's hilarious.

It's true that if Rudd gets re-elected then he'll be able to do a lot of traditional socially progressive things due to the Greens balance of power. Whether or not he does so is another matter entirely. I'm sceptical.
