Haven't played competitively for about 2 years but yeah, I've played Yugioh.

Only TCG I've really played. Vanguard seems to be getting popular.

Australia had its first YCS in Sydney - a mate of mine went to it (I think he won 5 rounds but that's not enough to get into the top 32 elimination rounds).

I have a Dark World deck and a Machina Town hybrid deck (runs the Machina Engine along with the AGGDs + Geartown + Magical Hats core) in real life. My decks are pretty outdated and my extra deck has mainly synchros and barely any xyz monsters. I also play Dueling Network at times.

I've been looking to get back into it but it just drains your money so much to play competitively :(

omg Game Traders sell decks still??? NO way! I thought Yu Gi Oh was dead now. How much is a deck?
Yu-Gi-Oh is still pretty much alive especially in America.

In Sydney, there's a place called Good Games http://www.goodgames.com.au/stores/nsw.html where you can play TCGs such as Magic, Pokemon and Yugioh competitively (i.e. tournaments). It's available in Burwood, Hurstville, Central and other places.

Depends.

Sometimes, a deck can cost up to $1000 through the ages (especially the Tier 1/meta decks) including the Extra Deck (since the introduction of strong Synchro and xyz monsters). But recent reprints have caused prices to fall down for many of the good cards such as Tour Guide (at its peak, a playset of tour guides was around $450 so $150 each). An extra deck can cost like... $100-300 nowdays.

And when the new banlist comes, konami is going to ban/limit the key cards in the meta deck and release a new op broken as shit deck which will be the new meta. moneywhores lmao
yep.

Dragon Rulers for example... got killed by the recent banlist after they limited each of the big dragons to 1.

But, the meta is so diverse now.

Lots of good decks around now... Evilswarm, Firefist/Firekings, Mermails, Karakuri (a Karakuri deck won YCS Sydney), Geargia, Prophecy, Bujins, etc.

Even some GX era decks such as Lightsworns, Blackwings, Gladiator Beasts can see some competitive play now.

That's why you play Tier 2 and 3 decks :) (they never get hit unless they become tier 1 due to new releases/support for the deck like when Six Samurais had 3 Shiens and had 3 gateways.... dats some broken shit :haha:)

ahh ok ok makes sense. And yeah I know the feels :3 for Vangaurd I got a card worth $30 and a few ppl wanna buy it off me xD

With making a deck though idk how I'd do it since I don't know where to start T.T it doesn't seem clear cut to me as Vangaurd is.
Well if its making an irl yugioh deck...

Firstly, look up some archetypes (e.g. Karakuri, Machina, Dark World, Bujins).

Tier List 2013-2014
Tier 1:

"Bujin"
"Prophecy"
"Fire Fist"
"Mermail"
"Machine (Geargia / Karakuri)"

Tier 2:

"Hieratic"
"Constellar"
"Harpie"
"Madolche"
"Evilswarm"
"Noble Knight"

Tier 3:'

"Dark World"
"Inzektor"
"Ghostrick"

The decks above are pretty competitive but there are other examples in the Tier 2 and 3 list.

Pick a deck that seems fun and interesting. If you want to win often, choose a meta deck.

Then ''netdeck'' and make modifications --> i.e. look up some YCS top 32 builds from America or something then look at what should be ran in the deck.

E.g. the CORE monster cards of Dark World that EVERYONE runs is..

3 Graphas
3 Snowws
3 Browws
1 Beige
2-3 Tour Guides

then you can add some ''tech choices'' of your own or fiddle around with some cards.

Spells and traps tend to be VERY GENERIC unless its the sidedeck where you can become creative.

If you have absolutely no clue, I'm here to help on deckbuilding and other yugioh advice :)

Which reminds me:

400 is a game I learned to play two years ago.

It's like Hearts, it involves winning tricks, with the twist being that you have to declare how many you'll win beforehand. Moreover, you play in teams - so you simultaneously have to make sure you make what you declare, while your partner does, while also trying to make your opponents lose.

It's 4 players, uses a normal standard deck of cards, and probably one of the most challenging - yet easy to learn - games I've played.

''when I have money'' :haha:

yeah, I wish yugioh was cheaper to play. Its pretty fun --> meeting new people at tournaments through card games~~

How expensive is Vanguard? Do single cards have ridiculous prices? E.g. are there any cards that have a pricetag of like $100+ on ebay lol.

Reading a few comments that made me laugh.

Also, I remember going undefeated like 4-0 at a mini tournament in Parra gametraders once with my MachinaTown deck lol a few years ago.

My deck was a 'target life points' type deck. So a lot of the cards were magic cards ie: "Return monster on opponent's side back to hand". Also had a lot of flip effect cards that did the same thing.

Was absolutely loaded with 1900 ATK + 4 star monsters, so I could just keep pounding at them without having to sacrifice anything. One of my cards iirc had 2300 ATK but 0 DEF!

well..... there's 2000 beaters now:

Uhh I don't think I'm the best to explain it to you but its like OP cards or something. They were also called XYZ i think... All I know is that the art work for them is pretty cool but besides that I'm clueluess

HUZZAH!! That's it! Why did I think it had wings.. I swear I watched an episode where he summoned that instead of Dark Magician and I fell in love with its adorableness!! Ahaha idk how I still know this xD
Synchro monsters require tuners to summon. But synchros are like so 2008-2011~~

xyz monsters just require multiple monsters of the same level to summon. E.g. You might have to ''overlay'' 2 level 4 monsters to summon a RANK 4 xyz monster.

And kuriboh does have wings.... if it's winged kuriboh :haha:

That's like any card game really xD yeah card games are fun like that though I'm only a casual.

And vanguard personally I haven't seen any cards that are $100+ but I do have a card worth $30 atm. If your starting there are trial decks that are great to start off with. It's just that there's so many different clans to pick from that it gets expensive to make multiple decks. Then again that's with any deck.
If your starting then I recommend tachikaze

OMG someone who knows yugioh ^^

Wow that's so sad that the big dragons got limited to 1. They were so fcking broken omg, use all your resources and you literally replenish your hand at your end phase. Bujins and mermail are "ok" but imo fire fist and prophecy are better (more agressive, and they search too op while bujins and mermail are more of a control deck). Machines can be good, there are a few rly good karakuri geargia otk variant that you might want to look up. Psychics are fun too! Everyting in tier 2 are crap except for madolche otk, hieratic otk and evilswarm control. Idk ghostrick, inzektors got pwned after ban list and dark world is such a fast deck (grapha op+the decks draw power) but you'll get destroyed in game 2 and 3 (shadow imprisoning mirror+some other cards I can't remember).

Imo you need 2-3 beige's and maybe a silva, you need monsters that you can bounce for grapha, after all you'll be discarding/banishing like crazy.

Also you should netdeck....just saying xD Best site would be yugioh pojo (don't netdeck from noobs, iirc theres this guy called Revives, netdeck everything he has xD), and this japanese site that contains full decklists of winners from tournaments etc.

You know you're cool when you spread out a playmat and you do the hand shuffle with your cards every second

Yeah, the yugioh banlist has changed.

TCG (Europe, Australia, US, etc.) has a different banlist to the OCG now (i.e. Japan).

Cyber Stein just got off the forbidden list and is now limited in the OCG LOOOL :haha:

Back then, it was 2 banlists per year in the TCG (March and September) --> now its going to be 4 banlists a year (every 3 months).

I assume you mean Shriek for the Japanese decklists.

fuck i typed out a paragraph, nek minnit chrome crashes :(

tl;dr
i lol'd @ infernity players, they take 10 minutes on their first turn and end up with like 2-3 tuners and 1-2 xyz's and a backrow (infernity barrier too strong xD)
the cop better take draccosacks, fcking $200 when dragon rulers were unlimited
OP might want to try out lightsworn monster mash deck (cheap and really fun)
we should play some day lol

Not really.

The basic mechanics of the the game are simple. In terms of game types like Commander/EDH, I'm not really familiar with how they exactly work.

Would also recommend anyone interested in getting into the game to check out Duels of Planeswalker 2014.

Since their inception of the series, it has often been regarded as the best tool for a newbie to start playing MTG and to see if it's for them.
