13U isn't uncommon for year 11 especially since in year 11 the minimum amount of units that is required is 12U.

The minimum is 12 units in year 11 and 10 units in year 12.

most schools run bio chem and physics on different lines so you can do them all im pretty sure. I did 13 units in year 11 its pretty much compulsarary if you want to do only 1 extension subject.

going to a catholic school with sor 1 or catholic studies being compulsory; in yr 11 the majority of the year did 13 units (with a few exceptions)

At our school, noone's allowed to do more than 12 units. Extension English is compulsory, so is Extension Maths.

If you have 13 units with, lets say, ext 1 english. Even when you drop a subject, you'll still have 11 units out of the 10 counted.

So how does it work when you have an odd number of units?

They take your best 10 units (well, more like 8, since English has to count).

At my school we had to do at least 13 (coz we had to do 1 u of religion)
and if u do one ext sub u have 14 u( theres quite a few people who have 14 in r 11)
i wish i as allowed 12 u in yr 11 coz then i could drop a 2 unit subject

you should be able to handle 13 units u sound like a smart kid (picking 3 sciences and ext maths)

ewwwww...english sucks!

anyway, hmmmmm... try to ask some teachers and see if you can take more than 13 units.. if not, then try dropping a science subject because all three can be pretty hard.

im in year 10, and im plannign on choosing:

English Advanced or maybe standard :mad1:
Mathematics Extension 1 (definitely)
CHemistry (definitely)
Biology (maybe)
Ancient History (love history)
Economics

Total = 13 units
not sure if im allowed to do 13... if i cant, then i'll drop biology. i know ancient history scales poorly, but i still wanna do it coz i love history and i know i'll do good in it.

subject selection due in soon!!!

hey, could i ask a question? if you want to get into a course in uni, say like medicine, do you have to do biology and chemistry? or could you just not do any science subjects and still be able to do it?

I'd like to know the answer to that too, like do they give preference to people with the biology knowledge? I mean after all that Umat tests, do they still look at the courses you do?

If no one knows the answer to that, I'll just ask at the USYD year 10 info night.

They cannot give preference unless the subjects are either assumed knowledge or recommended studies.

Yes they do. If you didn't take both science courses, they may ask you a question in the interview saying 'Why are you choosing to do Med without any science?' etc. I don't think you'll be at a disadvantage in 'getting' into the course, but while you're 'doing' the course, you will be. That's why there are bridging courses for you to catch up on :).

I hope that helps.
