I think you're off, it's really dependent on how hard the trials are each year. You can have people getting 70s in their school trial but still manage an e4.

That's strange. I would think 98 for 3u and 95 for 4u lol
Wouldn't you agree though that 95 in phys is harder than 95 in 4u?
Too much probability in 3u so nope and plus I like the topics of 4u such as mechanics more than calculus in physical world etc. Yes I guess its much harder cos of marking criteria and the scaling.

I was under the impression that for the past 5 years or so, 70%+ is almost guaranteed e4

lol the 4U paper had more probability question than 3U in 2013

I was also under this impression.

I am more thinking though, if the e4 cut-off is - as they say - around 65, then there are 35 'marks' between 90 and 100 HSC mark. Thus, does a 70 raw mark even traverse 90 to 91?

It's a linear scale. Every 3.5 raw marks = 1 HSC mark within the E4 range.

yes but if they were to sit their trial at this time of year they'd probably get well in the 80s

IMHO they'd probably get a lot higher but trials are a poor reflection of how someone would actually go considering there are usually about 1-2 topics that aren't covered in the trial. I know my school hadn't done mechanics yet so if there was mechanics in the paper and people sat it now, they would probably still get around the 70s range.

EXTENSION 2 MATHS (4U) - NB: Actual exam was out of 100.

60% (raw) --> 87% (aligned)
65% (raw) --> 90% (aligned)
70% (raw) --> 92% (aligned)
75% (raw) --> 93% (aligned)
80% (raw) --> 94% (aligned)
86% (raw) --> 96% (aligned)
90% (raw) --> 97% (aligned)
93% (raw) --> 98% (aligned)
95% (raw) --> 99% (aligned)

seems reasonably accurate

So 83% raw --> 95% aligned? :D
