Back on the topic we've turned this thread into:
it's just that if you're born in a poor household you probably have uneducated parents, and there's a particular sort of lifestyle/culture associated with that, and it goes a long way to determining how you think, talk, your manners and habits and how you present yourself
that's what makes a difference when these kids go into schools, because at school you get rewarded for behaving, speaking and acting a particular way
so in essence the kids from wealthier homes with educated articulate parents get more benefit out of school, as school currently functions.
For a clarifying real-life example, read Schroedinger's posts and then read some of the various shire kids' posts in other forums and note the difference in expression, then extrapolate that onto other things
It's not about how much parents push their kids, because poor parents do that too.
Actually it's possible poor parents push their kids to do well at school as much as richer parents (also poor and rich should be considered relative the particular community not so much the whole of Australia),bassistx said:Rich parents don't let their kids be lazy, remember? They're not allowed to drop school etcetcetc blahblahblah.
