I don't think necessarily WAN and LAN but types of cabling would show good understanding to the marker and it doesn't hurt to do

The textbook demonstrates a specific method of drawing the router and switch, which is good to demonstrate knowledge, but not necessary. Same with bridge's and gateways.

No, you won't be tested on obscure rules. There are international standards for drawing network diagrams, but you are not required to know them in IPT. However it is very useful if you can use pictorial symbols like these for the common building blocks of computer networks.
