although english is useful for communicating and all that crap, it comes with heaps of useless baggage. Stuff like being able to analyse shakespeare, analysing texts for techniques etc and all that crap is useless if the goal for english is to better communication skills.
if bos are serious in their goal, they should design a whole new course for this purpose. english is too specialised.
plus, i dont see why maths is any less important; but then again stuff like calculus isnt essential to daily life, similar to shakespeare in english. If it were up to me, there'd be this course called "General Ability" ( nostalgic to selective test hehe) and it would have only the useful bits of english and maths
