Sorry your name and your unusual interests led to believe otherwise, cause in the movie copycat, they said 90% of murders(serial killer type) are young white males. Well try to get your ass to America and join the CSI team, maybe it will be 25% or even more of the excitement shown in the series, I heard Sydney crime labs are so damn boring and in Aus you dont get to carry a gun if your a CSI, will thats what i heard prove me worng no sarcasm intended, hope your career goes well.

Nothing beats Hannibal Lecter, the guy mentioned by KittyCat. Of course, I for one am VERY glad he is fictional.
Sadly, I haven't read nearly enough about true crime to match my interest in it. I too like to look at crime from the psychological/psychiatric perspective. I do drop into the rotten library from time to time though, and spend three or so days meticulously boring through the different sections. Very intriguing stuff.

If that's not right - PM me, but all the symptoms are there, ie. torturing small animals when they're young, etc
Canada and America are different in HEAPS of ways - mainly their accents to the trained ear, but they're also alot more passive, and yeah, only Quebec speaks french.
Canada hates America, because they think America are gonna send in a small militia and kill them all for their very very clean water. I've forgotten why America hates Canada though.

What I meant to say was that one year they get "algebra", then they get "geometry" then it's "calculus" and on to "trigonometry".

1. Usually introspective and withdrawn, he has few associates and no close friends and enjoys olitary pursuits like reading or going to the cinema alone, often to see horror films.
2. He feels inadequate and inferior, except in regard to his crimes, which make him feel god-like, and is likely to offend when he has suffered a loss of self esteem such as loss of job, or being ridiculed by someone, especially in a sexual context.
3. He can be a hypochondriac and display squeamishness.
4. He has an elaborate fantasy life, imagining sadistic scenes which he acts out in his killings. He is fascinated by atrocities and excited by cruelty, such as that committed byt he Nazis, and collects books or pictures of such images.
5. He has an inordinate interest in weapons, often having a large collection which he may lovingly handle, and even endow some with pet names.
6. He is usually under 35, unmarried and of high intelligence
7. He is usually sexually dysfunctional, has usually h ad little or no experience of normal sexual intercourse and may hate all females.
8. Many take jobs which satisfy their sadistic inclinations, such as butchery or slaughter house work - in much the same way that necrophiles often obtain jobs as mortuary attendants and grave diggers.
9. He has a strong, ambivalent relationship wtih his mother, both loving and hating her. He is often seen as a 'mother's boy' when adult. Sometimes he commits matricide.
10. Sometimes the father is excessively punitive and authoritarian.
11. There is a great interest in pornography, particularly sadistic pornography.
12. A history of cruelty to animals is particularly significant when it relates to cats, dogs, birds and farm animals. Stabbing or hanging is common, although worse cruelties can be inflicted.
13. The method of killing his human is almost always strangling, which gives him a greater sense of power over his victims, playing with them 'like a cat with a mouse'
14. Although these are sexually motivated crimes, sexual intercourse or orgasm does not always occur. Sometimes the murderer masturbates and sometimes a penis-substitute - such as a piece of wood or a knife - is used to violate the victim.
15. When captured and institutionalized in hospitals or prisons, he is very well behaved, which can result in his being released or sent to a less secure unit.

Besides the obvious ones - sick minds, sociopathic personalities, unspeakable desires etc - serial killers tend to share a number of characteristics. In a paper presented to the international association of forensic sciences in 1984, Special Agent Robert K. Ressler and several of his colelagues listed the following 'general characteristics' of serial sex murderers.
1. Over 90 percent of them are white males
2. They tend to be intelligent, with IQs in the 'bright normal' range.
3. In spite of their high IQs, they do poorly in school, have a hard time holding down jobs, and often work as unskilled laborers.
4. They tend to come from markedly unstable families. Typically, they are abandoned as children by their fathers and raised by domineering mothers.
5. Their families often have criminal psychiatric, and alcoholic histories.
6. They hate their fathers. They hate their mothers.
7. They are commonly abused as children - psychologically, physically, and sexually. Sometimes the abuser is a stranger. Sometimes it is a friend. Often, it is a family member.
8. Many of them end up spending time in institutions as children and have records of early psychiatric problems.
9. They have a high rate of suicide attempts
10. They are intensely interested from an early age in voyeurism, fetishism, and sadomasochistic pornography.
In addition to the above list, there are also three more characteristics:
1. Enuresis (bed-wetting) - more than 60 percent of serial killers were still wetting their beds over the age of 12.
2. Fire starting - children like to play iwth matches because they are intrigued by the bright, colourful, flickering flames. But budding serial killers carry this interest to a frightening extreme. Their fascination wtih fire is an early manifestation of their fondness for spectacular destruction. Otis Toole - the cretinous sidekick of Henry Lee Lucas - burned down a neighbourhood house when he was six. Teenage thrill killer George Adorno was even younger when he first displayed his pyromaniac tendencies, setting fire to his own sister when he was only four. The incorrigible Carl Panzarm was thrown into a reformatory when he was eleven. A few months later, he torched the place, causing damage to the tune of $100,000.
