Too much tedious work for me, as Ive said in other threads, im now considering acting, and going to hollywood. And dont you laugh! Thats my dream. To be the next Robin Williams.

Depending on your ATAR both UNSW and UWS are interview offers are possible. If you smash your interview you'll definitely get an offer for medicine. Better start practicing interviews.

Usually percentile cut off is around 85% for UWS if you live in GWS. Depends on how many people apply etc.
UNSW is more-likely than UWS since UWS take a weighted score (1+1+0.5) which is only 143.5 for them, and I got one of the lower scores, 151.5, last year.

No… it's not a percentile cutoff…
Stahp.

What unis do u think i can get an interview for
percentile:90
overall score: 180

atar estimate around 97
depending on your section scores
You could have interviews anywhere

And your ATAR might increase

I found this slab of text on BOS a while ago and might be useful to some...

UMAT/ATAR requirements for MBBS interviews in NSW universities (based on last year):

UWS:
UMAT: For 2011, you needed a weighted score of at least 149 for a GWS student. For a non-GWS student, you need a weighted score of ~156. A weighted score is Section 1 + Section 2 + (0.5 x Section 3).
ATAR: 95.50+ for Non-GWS (Greater Western Sydney) student OR 93.50+ for a GWS student. This is a cut-off that you need to pass. No difference between a 96 and 99.95 ATAR for UWS. If you want to know if you are in GWS, go here: http://www.uws.edu.au/medicine/som/applying_to_medicine/mbbs

UNCLE/UNE:
UMAT: To qualify, you need a score of 50+ in each section. After that, interviews are given based on section 1 scores. For 2011, cut-off was around 58 at UNCLE. Not sure about UNE.
ATAR: 94.30+

UNSW:
UMAT/ATAR: UNSW takes both into account. Here's the general table for it:
UMATATAR
5499.95
5699.5
5999.0
6498.0
6797.0
7096.0
Median ATAR is around 99.50. Also, take into account only a handful of people under 99 ATAR get passed interviews.
cutoffs for UNE and UNCLE interviews are the same

Also, UNE/UNCLE section one needed was 61 last year
And GWS entry to UWS has gone up whilst non-GWS has remained similar

Students don't understand the importance of interviews and are also naive to the fact that they can do well without training. They also don't realise it's something you can significantly improve in a matter of days to weeks although ideally I would suggest months of training.

I am offering interview training (1 to 1 and also as a group) so if you are serious about medicine drop me a message.
anyone who should get past the interviews stage
Should be able to
In a day
(less)
of training

S1: 62
S2: 58
S3: 58
total score: 178
percentile: 88%

I would love to get into UWS med, as it is close to my house and the program seems really appealing.
What are my chances?
chances are borderline
You are just below last years cutoff
But it could decrease
I would recommend applying still
And applying elsewhere as well
After you get an interview your interview is all that matters so don't worry that your UMAT isn't super good

You should be on the cut off point for the interview offers. Interview counts for 2/3 of the entry requirements so as long as you do better than 80% of candidates in the interview you should be fine. I offer interview training 1 to 1 and workshops, for any interested candidates. I've helped quite a few students get into UNSW, UWS, USYD and other unis for medicine and dentistry.
stop

All this misinformation is not good

I actually go to UWS and have spoken to the academics who help form the entrance requirements into medicine

It is NOT 2/3:1/3 Interview:UMAT, it is solely off interviews.

Also, more info, the entrance to interviews is 50:50 GWS:non-GWS
But after interviews candidates are ranked in one list on how good their interview was, being GWS or not does not effect this.

99th percentile. But im reconsidering medicine, dont think I'll enjoy being a doctor.

you're lying
You did shit

S1: 53
S2: 60
S3: 65

Overall: 177
88th percentile

UWS weighted score: 145.5

Do I have any chance for UWS?
honestly,
You don't have a shot at UWS (unless you're in advanced science there) or UNE/UNCLE
But might have a shot at UNSW/elsewhere if your ATAR is high enough

Still apply though
Just in case!!!

Haha really? sai maan you're doing so good! :D My brother has told me all about your brilliant exploits at HAHS, and how you're smashing everyone in just everything lol. Your English is also amazing for HAHS :) 20 people with 99's? Thats pretty awesome! Well done on 98 percentile too man, you're 100% into medicine haha.
Im somewhat surprised that you're on BoS, didnt think you the kind of person who'd go on here, let alone a person who'd be into DBZ haha.
when people start saying this is when people fuck up interviews
So
Don't

So Med Students Online Wiki is wrong for UWS admission? So if it's 100% interview score the more reason for students to start practicing early. I disagree with you saying students only need 1 day to review for the interview. If parents placed more emphasis on academia students with such parents would not have been exposed to the extra-curricular aspect of expression and socialization therefore, not allowing them to show their true potential. I've seen many students who know how to talk, been admitted to medicine although they were assholes (Don't know if they have changed).

My scores were S1: 54
S2:64
S3:68
94th percentile
GWS
How much of a chance for a UWS interview offer?

Also, because I'm really keen on applying for the Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship and would be happy to accept a Bonded place, will this improve my chances by much?
Cheers in advance :)

You should be able to get an interview.

Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship is quite competitive from what I've heard. One issue with taking on such a scholarship is that it can potentially delay you into entering a specialty training program since you have to fulfill the requirements of the scholarship. It also means it is harder to make connections with the top gun doctors who will probably be working at urban hospitals. It may open you up to rural specialty training programs which are a lot easier to get in and it may fast track your career. It can work for or against you so consider it before accepting it.

It's hard to say whether putting a BMP place first will increase your chances but people are so desperate about getting into medicine they will still accept a BMP so I don't think it will really affect your chances.

Now you just need to ace your interview.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I was pretty sure I had no chance with that low S1 score :frown2:

With UNSW, would the interview offers only be based on your predicted ATAR and UMAT score?

So if my predicted ATAR ends up not being enough, would I have no chance at UNSW? Even if my actual ATAR ends up being enough (say 99+)?

Yeh someone posted the predicted ATAR + UMAT score you needed to get an interview.

If you have a lower predicted ATAR you may not be offered main round interviews but if your actual ATAR is enough you will be offered final round interviews (these are in early Jan)

Uws weighted 155, gws applicant
Section 1: 64
Met the 50min for each section.
Chances for Newcastle/uws? Atar not good enough for unsw.

You'll probably get UWS interview. Not sure about Newcastle cut offs. Smash your interview and you're golden. Do average and it's risky.

True that.
For the interviews, especially UWS seeing as though that's where I want to end up, apart from obviously having a good think about why I want to do med is there anything you recommend?
Volunteer work is at a minimum unfortunately due to reasons outside of my control but I'm hoping the interviews are orientated more towards actually assessing your suitability to becoming a doctor(something which you can't really prepare for in my opinion, someone correct me if I'm wrong :S).

Most people think you can't prepare for the interview. They are wrong. It's like saying you can't practice for a job interview or an audition for acting. Students are often misguided by the fact that they must possess intrinsic traits for a doctor. I have trained many students for interviews for many universities and I have never met anyone who has impressed me with their approach and answers. You'll be amazed with a little training to adjust candidates perspective a huge difference is apparent; similar to the UMAT.

Just be yourself and you'll be fine.

That's what ~2/3 candidates who don't get an offer are told, "Just be yourself, you'll be fine". Chances are stacked against you if you take that advice. I was told that too by someone then I had a specialist give me some pointers for the interview and he picked up on so many areas where I could improve.

2/3 of students from the interview stage don't get an offer, irrespective of interview prep

There is no universal strategy, prep works for some people and for others it is unnecessary, entirely up to the individual to gauge whether or not they need it

Not really.
If you are meant to get through and you are yourself you'll get through.

Interview preparation will make you do better than if you did not have any preparation regardless if you make it or not. This means that interview preparation does help the student but it's up to the student as to what benefit they can achieve. "If you are meant to get through and you are yourself you'll get through.", just a sad excuse for lack of preparation and/or motivation to get into medicine. Most people who sit interviews for medicine will have no problems being a doctor. 2/3 rejected because they rank poorly doesn't mean they aren't capable of being doctors.
