there is alot of duplication at uws, since many subjects are taught at 2 or more campuses, this costs money but the teacher student ratio is less so more interaction to lectureres. only thins is that so many go to parra that its useless.
the thing is they are encouraging group learning now more than ever, which isnt a bad thing but it has it cons as well, but soem lectureres who cant assess individual attemps will try to put more weighting on final exams and such which means more pressure. ofcourse in this day and age if you cant handle pressure, than most work that you will find will be hard for you.
personally, i wonder how they even assign roooms. i mean i got a full marketing class in a small room yet i have this lecture with like 100-200 students that could fit 500. they should arrange them more carefully coz many peopel were denied and had to go to the night lecture which meant they wassted their time turining up to class anyway.
yeah i get what you mean, i mean, my Managing people at Work Lecture is in the big auditorium room but its only like, half full.. but then there's my Torts seminar which had to be transferred to parra north coz we've got 60 so its too small for the big rooms but too big for the smaller room we were allocated coz we were meant to have 45 people...

i think, from the way i understand it, they allocate the room based upon how many places are available in the unit, and one of my lecturer's said something about how the teachers themselves try to limit numbers so they can teach more effectively, but they dont always get their way coz UWS isnt in the habit of stopping people from doing units just because teachers prefer small class sizes...

i have no idea why some classes are so empty...but i think the reason why some classes are so full from what i gather from what other people have said about their classes, is that often people cant attend other sessions coz of timeteblae clashes etc so rather than just tell them "sorry u cant do the subject" they make the class bigger....also i guess it has to do with the trend towards/against day or night classes - we were just encouraged to join one of the couple of night torts classes coz they only have 18 people in each and we've got 60...

also, some tutes closed coz only 4 or so people signed up for them, so these people just had to shift into an existing tute...

i guess it just seems to depend on who does what units each year and what days/campuses

UTS is more professional, but that is what makes it less relaxed. I find that UWS has that more 'highschool' sort of feel. UTS treats you more like a customer than a student.

uts did have better food though :)..although i guess it would cause of it's location.
haha seems like everywhere has better food than uws, (parra campus at least) unless ur willing to head back westfield way :p

It suprises me how pisses off people get, at the most insignificant things.
Having 400 in a tutorial is not insignificant it will clearly impact on his ability to get questions answered and more personalised tuition. This is not a minor point, he's paying to be at uni he should expect good service.

WHY does Penrith not have student discounts?? I paid something like, $2.70 for a sushi which had avocado in it, thus it tasted weird and non-sushi like. I'm going to ask about discounts tomorrow!

yeh i agree....if i was in a tute that big id be hoping a lota ppl started gettin lazy or droppin out....would make it difficult to talk to your tutor or get help with essay writing or stuff like that if you needed it...

i like the fact that my tutes have only 25 i think? coz it means you can kinda organise study groups and that kinda stuff coz u get to know people more quickly and same with the tutor, its not like a big group when the teacher'd b e lucky 2 remember 2 people...

I wasent referring to that.
Then what were you reffering to? The only two people who posted before you and were pissed off were both reffering to how overcrowding at UWS is bad.

I referred to this. I personally think its a bit silly getting pissed off if you cant dont get to sit with ur friends

just because you like to sit by yourself, it doesnt make it silly to have friends, it is silly if u walk into a lecture with your 6 friends and you have to scatter all over the place and sit next to some stranger

omfg, boo hoo. you're not in bloody high school. make friends with the person next to you, who cares ? you'll see your friends when the lec ends. part of uni is meeting new people.

and btw, wtf are these UWS-haters doing, posting in here ? if you don't go to UWS and you're just here to diss, we don't wanna hear it.

agreed. You don't go to a lecture to socialise anyway, you go to learn. Socialising is for breaks and catching transport home. Some lecturers HATE people talking during lectures. My lecturer todat went ballistic at someone talking in class today ... never seen her so mad, cause i had her last year as well

And some people can't help themselves, any opportunity they have to diss UWS they will ... it makes me mad

lol what about the people from UWS who post in other uni boards?

Insecrutable, the way to solve your seating problem is show up early and get in early. Its the same everywhere, you come in late your going to have to scatter.

As far for the earlier complaints about UWS and cost cutting, you get what you pay for. You want cheaper HECS etc your going to have accept that this will lead to cost cutting. Yes its the governments falt, but in the end you can either go somewhere with better facilities and wider selection. Complaining on a forum wont help, go to your union and ask them how you can help change what your complaining about.
