    Engg1000 thoughts and tips

My experience was horrible. I only had to deal with one international student but the experience was still horrible due to the project nature. Also, nothing on professional engineering practices was really taught. The marking scheme in semester 2 was pretty bad too.

    Units and Honours year

Different unis will have different systems in place for their programs. You should directly ask the faculty and/or school at USyd which you plan to be studying in.

What uni? Check with the uni guidelines and what the limits are.

Software Eng (H) / Masters in Biomedical Engineering Q.

If there was no link between the two, the program wouldn't be offered. There is a significant link and note that your thesis is I think quite different. If I recall correctly, 3 semesters of thesis which is related to both fields.

Dual degree worth it or no?

The comp eng courses that are related to hardware could be from a different school, depending on the uni. At UNSW, all the courses that comp eng students must do and comp sci students don't that are electronics related are under the school of electrical engineering and telecommunications. Comp...

Dual degree worth it or no?

If you have interest in both then comp eng will give you a taste of electronics but will be primarily coding based. Elec eng will give you knowledge in many areas, not only electronics. If you want to focus on computing in particular, then steer away from elec eng. Mechatronics will mainly...

    Single Degree vs Double Degree

It varies between different programs and degrees. What dual are you looking at? That makes a big difference in the end and it is hard to answer without knowing which dual program you want to do.

    Single degree vs double degree

Woah I'm the opposite. Want to do heaps of electives (and a few Mech courses but I can't :p) but don't get the option to.

    Single degree vs double degree

No. They are electives of your own choice which can supplement your thesis and further study. Actually yeah you are right it would be 2 electives lost only. You don't have to do comm courses for your gen eds. You can do anything outside of the faculty of engineering.

    Single degree vs double degree

You get less options and electives in the Engineering side if you combine it with Commerce. Effectively, you do 3.5 years of Engineering courses compared to 4 years, so you lose the option to do an extra 4 electives in Engineering. Take that into consideration when you choose.

    Keyboards

Ended up with strix tactic cherry mx brown switch almost 6 months later. I thought I would have loved the red switch in theory but found the brown switch to give the appropriate feedback for typing and determining between missed key strokes when I was trying it out. After a day of use I...

    New years resolutions

Had a great year but failed about half of these. The year was good and quite a lot of learning experiences though, so I won't consider most of those I didn't do as a failure at all. There's been quite a few bonuses on top of these though which was great.

UOW to UNSW Transfer (Computer Science)

Would be surprised if you get a reply before 2nd January. UNSW is in shutdown. Try any way. Some coordinators and staff are really nice when it comes to replying to emails from experience.

UOW to UNSW Transfer (Computer Science)

I know someone who transferred like that except for Civil and they had about 75% accredited. Imo, if you go that route, maybe consider only doing the courses which will be accredited for your transfer. Contact UNSW to see what can be accredited. Go through the school level (ie contact CSE...

    MATH1131 and 1141 dropout rate

Projectile motion from MX1 and Mechanics from MX2 are handy for PHYS11X1 so it's worth learning if you need to do Physics 1A.

    MATH1131 and 1141 dropout rate

I crammed 1141 and scraped a HD. My combined mark was around 180.

    How hard is engineering?

Not doing Physics shouldn't put you at much of a disadvantage for Civil. I'll ask you this. Is tertiary education meant to be straightforward and easy?

    USYD Engineering

OP said they didn't reach the ATAR cut-off for mechanical engineering for the previous year but they did reach the cut-off for flexible first year.
