    studying and stuff

Science honors is a WAM over 65 for the course of your degree, or if this isn't possible, a WAM >65 for 3rd year subjects. - I think my biggest motivator is the fact that just a few weeks of hard work will mean i can spend the next 3.5 MONTHS in bliss. Where as if you fuck up a subject...

    anyone else fkd?

I'd love to redo the HSC biology paper now, just so I could hugely overkill anything to do with renal physiology, genetics, neurophysiology and especially molecular biology. If anyone is at the opposite end of the spectrum I.e. they would like to know a little bit more detail on any of the...

How does majoring in science work?

I've decided I'll finish med sci and sit the GAMSAT early next year for Masters in pharm at usyd. I was soo close to applying to UAC but in the end just couldn't stand the idea of starting again (and have accumulated $13k hecs for no reason). - If that fails, I'll quite seriously consider...

    So BIOS1011.....

Have you had the prac test yet? I remember them saying the reason they don't give the marks for that exam back is because the average most years is around 30%

How does majoring in science work?

I'll almost certainly be going ahead with pharmacology for a major now (ended up hating pathology, I think mainly because of how it was taught). Is that a basement dwelling / 40k a year major?

    So BIOS1011.....

MICRO2011- The tutorials were generally just a discussion of what we would be doing in the lab immediatly following or a fairly easy exercise- Such as what the selective pressures of different growth mediums are. Good WAM boosting subject providing you do all the assingments to a high...

What's the molecular biology theory of praticals exam like?

    - Seeing as I was taken completely by suprise at what they asked in the biochemistry theory of practicals exam last semester thought I'd ask what the molecular one is like? - My basic plan for it atm is get my blue sheets all done to a high standard and know all answers / calculations in them +...

    Medical Science...Pros and Cons

If you come to UNSW you don't have to do physics and could do something like like psychology instead of maths. The biology courses in 1st year are easy enough to get away without having done HSC biology, but chemistry I'd suggest doing a bridging course and then CHEM1011 in 1st semester.

Pharmacy or optometry as alternative to med

No offence to you in particular, but I really hate this large sum of individuals who go- Dam I didn't get into med, guess I'll pharm, optom, or dentistry instead; with no motivation or reason to do them outside of the fact they failed to make the cut.

If I don't get into Pharmacy here next year...

I'm trying to weigh up a similar decision (well sort of) atm myself. - I'm a 2nd year medical science student, with a WAM of 83.5 (and 96.5 UAI); I've really really enjoyed pharmacology, but have thought long and hard and decided pharmacy is the road I'd like to take as apposed to pharmacology...

    Bachelor of Science

Mathematics 2 unit is fine, I'm doing 2nd year pharmacology atm (UNSW), the only real maths is statistics which isn't hard at all. It's mainly just a memory cramming course- This drug acts on this receptor which has this 2ndary messenger which causes these physiological responces etc..

    Failure rate for Chem1011

Or CHEM1011 / CHEM1021 is for those of us who got a band 6 in HSC chem and wanted to maximize our WAM in 1st year, by getting 87 & 85 in the subjects; and who aren't planning on doing a chem major, in which case most other subjects don't require more then what's taught in the fundamental courses.

    B. Science ----> B. Medical Science or Pharmacy

Why would you want to do B.sci --> B. med sci? They are the same thing really, aim for pharmacy unless research is what you are really passionate about.

    UNSW or USYD for Science?

Pie is better then cake and pirates are definately better then ninjas

    Failure rate for Chem1011

If you did HSC chem, then the 1st 1/2 of CHEM1011 is basically complete revision. The 2nd half, there is some new stuff with thermodynamics and organic chemistry but even that is pretty basic. Being a pre-requisite for everything means you probabley should do it 1st year, unless you have your...

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

I would say for anatomy, borrow textbooks from the library if / when you need them. Buy the spot test disk from the student help office, and use the lecture notes. Unless your planning on an anatomy major, there really isn't much point in spend $100+ on a textbook. I mainly just looked in...

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

Most people I know found the genetics course pretty bland, largely it involves statistics and equations for determining frequency of certain genotypes etc etc.. BIOS1011 (unless they've changed what its called) you just have to grit your teeth and get through the plant material, but once that...

    med application form

Hmmm, that sux. I talked to a few individuals within the faculty and they said I didn't, so I'am yet to fill out a form. I guess as donik said, it couldn't hurt; so I might as well fill it out and submit it early this semester.

    med application form

Sorry if I'm sort of Hijacking your thread, but I thought I may as well ask here rather then make a new topic. Some of my med sci friends this week have been submitting that form to the office under the assumption that you must submit that form to be eligible for the lateral transfer scheme, is...
