    TREATMENT of bacteria

I think you are confused with Capsule and Cell wall. A capsule is a polysccharide layer that has a variety of functions, including serum resistance and prevent phagocytosis. This is especially evident in urinary pathogenic E. coli (UPEC) that can evade host immune response. You are right...

He's a good teacher. But Society and Culture generally doesn't attract "academic" students at my school because it is on the same stream as 4 U Maths and English.

    Fungus, insect, or disease?

Sorry where is the "above picture"?? Judging from your description, it could be a viral infection. If it was a fungal infection, it should have mold on it.. If a parasite is involved, such as insects or snails, you should have a half eaten leaves or leaves with holes.

    Fungus, insect, or disease?

It depends what it looks like. You can determine the causative agent unless you look at it, and even then, it's not 100% accurate. :) May be describe the sign?

    Random segreggation

Segregation is the separation of the chromatids (note, NOT chromosomes) of a chromosome. Each chromatids end up in one daughter cell. So you will end up two identical daughter cells from mitosis. In meiosis, segregation can mean that two homologues chromosomes, e.g. two copies of chromosomes...

    Change and continuity questions

I remember this question when i did S&C. I can type up my answer and the marking guideline for you. It is not exactly the same, but I hope you will get the point. 3 a) Explain the concept of "westernisation" (2 marks) Westernisation is catalysed by globalisation. It is the beliefs and...

    geos1701

It is highly unlikely they will scale you down. You will most likely end up with your raw mark in BEES/BABS, that is, your final mark should be your raw mark over the entire course. Although they did scaled up 1 or 2 marks in Advanced Genetics/Genetics, which really didn't make much a difference...

    geos1701

A lof of the course don't scale anyway. BIOS1201 doesn't scale. Don't expect too much scaling, if any, from BABS or BEES.

    Diffusion

hmm.. I think for 1, they are looking for answers such as Na+ and Cl- ions, as they actually diffuse through pores of the membrane. For 2, I don't know what it is trying to ask but O2 and CO2 seems correct, as they are dissolved in water and can cross the membrane without going through pores.

BIOS1201 - dif between cyano and bacteria?

argh. perhaps I didn't explained it clearly. Here I go again: - Cyanobacteria looks like a string of cells (examine under light microscopy) - Most other bacteria are single-celled - Cyanobacteria form what is known as heterocysts to fix atmospheric Nitrogen. They are the bigger cells...
