FYI I have moved some of your posts here because you're no longer discussing about Medicine as per the original thread in the University Discussion forum. This thread is for general chit chat.

    Inverse trig question

Yeah, once you become an actual mathematician and writing academic papers. That will never fly in an exam at school or uni though lol

    Inverse trig question

Actually, the part where you had 2\cos^{-1} (x) = \cos^{-1} (3x+1) lends itself to an obvious quadratic by cosine double angles.

    Inverse trig question

I think the use of the word “obviously” was misleading because normally that is used to call on a result, not used in place of a “hence” or “therefore”. Either way, the part where you have an equation in terms of u is not trivial and is missing some working.

    Inverse trig question

No, I’m talking about your inverse cosine result that you called on.

    Inverse trig question

FYI we mark the BoS trials in similar way to HSC lol. You can’t just assume results like that without proof, otherwise you can argue the result you’re trying to prove in the first place is also “trivial”.

There are some essays in the Notes & Resources section. Have you checked those out?

Maths-Ext 1/2 Marks Lost and Hardest Topics

Reverse product/quotient rule is literally equivalent to integration by parts in the same way that reverse chain rule is equivalent to substitution.

Where/how to buy homework from tutoring centres?

If you are looking for exam style questions, there are some papers up on the Notes & Resources section: https://boredofstudies.org/resources/categories/chemistry.503/ We also had a BoS trial exam for Chemistry last year...

    Atar Calculator Scaling

That seems to be the case based on ancedotal evidence, but I haven’t seen this hypothesis being tested.
  12. Trebla

    Atar Calculator Scaling

A 90th percentile for everything does not equal 90 ATAR. It’s more complicated than that. For that, you’ll need to know: - The scaled marks for that percentile for all subjects - The sum of those scaled marks (out of 500) - What ATAR that sum corresponds to The latter involves another...

    Atar Calculator Scaling

If you are talking about to finding percentiles in between say 90th and 99th then you can estimate by interpolation (either fitting a straight line or some curve). You most likely won’t get an exact number though (there is no way to verify accuracy without the actual data anyway) but the...

    Biology HSC summaries

Hi xaraz, Please do not post resources on the forums. You should load them on the Notes & Resources section: https://boredofstudies.org/resources/ Please move those resources accordingly. Thanks

    Atar Calculator Scaling

Correct. Scaled marks are derived from raw marks, not aligned marks. Table A3 should not be read as a “conversion” between aligned marks and scaled marks. Also, a technicality to point out is that a raw mark of say 80 vs 81 will actually give different exact aligned marks, but these can round...

    Permutation and combinations, confusing question

Don't complain too much lol. Permutations and combinations used to appear in Maths Ext2 papers until the new syllabus came in.

    Vector Help

Ah I see where the confusion lies. Are we talking about i in the context of complex numbers or in terms of unit vectors?

    Vector Help

I wouldn’t call it a “method” per se. It’s just the definitions of magnitude and direction of a vector. A vector is simply a means to specify the magnitude and direction of something (e.g. a force). It is represented by an arrow. The length of the arrow tells you the magnitude and the angle of...

    Vector Help

Draw an arrow from the origin to the point on the complex plane. The magnitude is the length of the arrow from the origin and the angle is between the arrow and the positive x-axis.
