As a maths professor you are expected to dedicate most of your time to original research. In the pure maths space that could be anything from finding new properties of existing concepts, finding new ways to solve existing problems, to developing new ideas/concepts.

I think that's a typo. Each term should be accompanied by a factor of 1/2 when using the trapezoidal rule.
