Yeah you will find at uni you have to go to the library and use actual books a lot more than at high school.
I think one important thing for the newbies to know is that in first year in the first semester, in most subjects everyone is new and the tutors and lecturers do make an effort to help...
The ones near Central Railway station are just a short work to Darling Harbour. Try Wake Up Sydney, or YHA Railway Square or YHA Sydney Central. They are all fairly nice hostels, 10 mins walk to Darling Harbour.
I'm in England too now... I'm studying in London for 6 months. It's tres cold but I'm getting used to it, apparently the worst is yet to come, people have been telling me the end of January, early Feb is the coldest time. Eeeek!
I'm just about to start my semester at the University of Westminster which is the most highly regarded uni for journalism in the UK... well at least according to the Guardian newspaper, so it must be true... so that's pretty cool (as in cool literally because the weather is freezing here)...
I think the reason for the massive drop last year was that UTS actually opened up a lot more HECS places in the communications degrees, including social inquiry, due to the popularity of the courses. I would be surprised if it jumped up to anywhere near was it was for 2004 entry... of course...
Gumal Ngurang is the best... it has the best location, it is the biggest, and it is the newest.
Bulga comes second.
I lived in a 4 bed apartment at Gumal and it was good, a lot of it rests on who you end up living with. If you want to make friends and want it to be social I would probably...
I theoretically could have gone to school for free... we paid all the voluntary fees though of course, which amounted to about $60 for year 12. I got in to the course I wanted, and I learnt a lot about how to relate to people from across the broad social spectrum. My parents forked out money...
To drunk customers.... don't tell me your PIN number. That's what the keypad I am shoving in your face is for. And if you are too drunk to remember my PIN, walk down to the bank and waste the ATM's time instead of mine!
Also, don't hand me money out of your wallet that contains your own...
ARGH just got home from work... so stuffed. Had someone call in sick, had to work 15 hours straight.... no break, hard work.
My feet are so sore. I'm going to bed now!
I'm working on NYE from 7pm to 7am... it's the busiest night of the year at our family business. It's super full on, but at least the time flies because you are totally run off your feet! I also had the joy of working Christmas eve 10pm to 7am.... fun fun, our business means the chances of...
It's true that I see a bit of myself in your situation. I am still trying to decide whether to do an honours year on my journo degree, do grad law at unsw, or just try and get a proper job, even if it is at the very bottom end of the pecking order! It's a bit hard too, I come from a bit of a...
If you want to be a news journalist, study journalism. If you want to specialize, study a specialist degree (e.g. business) and do journo postgrad or just write for heaps of publications while you are studying your undergrad degree.
Don't stress about what course you do... just whatever you...
UOW was my second choice when I was applying for uni, it did look quite good.
But yeah, you can always do postgrad, it is probably looked at more favourably by employers anyway. UTS has some very good postgrad journalism courses too that have high standing in the industry.
Journalism at CSU Bathurst
Journalism at QUT
Journalism at RMIT
Those three courses are probably the best alongwith/besides UTS, they have good reps in the industry especially CSU Bathurst.
If you don't want to move from Syd, maybe look at Mac's media course or maybe just do arts at...
I wouldn't recommend USyd Media/Comm. From what I heard you do nothing practical at all and it is more geared towards things like PR/advertising than journalism.
You can do political subjects and broad learning in your UTS journalism degree, you get electives each semester from second year...
