    Naming carbon compounds

the choice is subjective, but I would've picked what the DotPoint answer was.. starting with the 4-bromo, because the other two halogens have quite low-number positions, which is favourable. The one's in HSC exams aren't as tricky though.. and usually just contain chlorine and/or fluorine...

Re: the big question WHAT UNI DO YOU WANT TO GO TO AND WHY! oo the School of Business is realllyyy modern and nice - you'll love it. I've been to the UNSW campus quite alot, since my cousin goes to UNSW. All commerce/business/law related facilities are amazing at UNSW, from what I've seen...

    Naming carbon compounds

I usually just try and get the lowest-number possible for each halogen. It really depends on the molecule/isomer thats given.

Re: the big question WHAT UNI DO YOU WANT TO GO TO AND WHY! The UNSW campus is awesome IMO. The Faculty of Law building is heaps cool and ultramodern - its only a couple of years old I think. Looks quite abstract and all - the library in there is really nice too. I'm sure u'll make it...

    Question Chain Thread !!!

NaHCO3 is amphiprotic, since the HCO3- ion is amphiprotic (will neutralise both H3O+ and OH-). That's the only one I can think of at the moment that's used in acid spills.

    Naming carbon compounds

you order the constituent halogen atoms in terms of alphabetical order (dont worry about electronegativity). always have chloro- before fluoro- etc.

    Alpha glucose and Beta glucose

Yeah, just remember that alpha-glucose and beta-glucose are kind of inverse of each other. One the HO-H groups on the alpha-glucose molecules is kind of like the other way around in beta-glucose. Also, beta-glucose allows for cellulose to be formed because the beta-glucose monomers rotate...

What do you want to be when you grow up? Plans for after the HSC?

Re: the big question WHAT UNI DO YOU WANT TO GO TO AND WHY! lol I actually like that aspect of the campus, although the OLD (1960s and 1970s style) and ugly buildings like Carslaw and the School of Chemistry just turn me off. Whereas, when you look at UNSW, the new School of Chemical...
