    We have a new pope!

I think that Catholicism is open for criticism.... the actions of the catholic church, due to their legions of followers, has ramifications both economically and socially for the rest of the world. Their money and power (even though supporter numbers are growing smaller) mean that they can play...

    We have a new pope!

Why didn't they elect a pope from a third world country/South America where the majority of Catholics reside? There seemed to be suitable candidates from there.... It just shows the inherrent eurocentrism in the Catholic church. They preach from a position of privelidge, their figureheads...

    Rules for Customers

Some people are such wankers, don't they realize that most people are working in customer service/check outs to finance their education, not to make a career out of it (not that there is anything wrong with that mind you... it is a valid career path, some people are just pretentious wankers)...

    anyone out there red Catch-22?

We did catch 22 in yr 10.... I really liked it, it's a very witty book... it took a while to get in to it though, but in the end I enjoyed reading it.

    Centrelink

Serious? The trouble with me is that all of the principal/vice principal/year advisor left when I finished school, so I don't really have any "connections" left at my school. I need to get a letter from them though because otherwise they are taking it from the end of term 4 because I don't...

    Essay Plan

For your journo story, have you looked at the Southside News story list in the UTS Journalism folder on UTS online? That might give you some ideas. Go to Redfern community centre, check out City of Sydney events on their website. Who is your teacher for J1? The major thing going on in...

I'm keeping my job at coles, where I am on a part time 12 hour contract, so I will just be working that, so I will be going a bit over and losing some of the payment, but it doesn't really bother me. I also might do a bit of hospitality work every now and then. I'm a bit of a workaholic, it...

    Rocks Shootings

I couldn't see a thread on this, so I thought I would start one. http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Rocks-murders-two-cars-linked-to-shootings/2005/04/19/1113854171225.html What did you think of the shootings that happened at the Rocks (and Stanmore Maccas) on the weekend? Do you think...

    So bad, its good

I am so like this too..... bad movies are sometimes the ones that I find most entertaining. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is horrendous.... and hence humorous! Bring it on Again (the sequel to Bring it on) is also terrible but funny Ummm.... another bad one is Honey... it's so cheesy

    Your Best Easy/Cheap Meals

Some salads are really good because you can prepare them when you have time and then eat them when you are too busy to cook. Waldorf salad is very easy.... chop up celery, green apples and walnuts. Add mayonaise. Stir. Caesar is yummy but it isn't very cheap if you want to use real...

    Saved!

I couldn't see a thread anywhere about this film, so I thought I would make one. I saw it last night on DVD and found it quite enjoyable.... yeah it was one of those high school teen queen films but at least it was a little different and you could take a few messages about religious...

Film You Have Seen The Most

Probably Chicago, Looking for Alibrandi, Matilda, Disney's Mulan, Moulin Rouge.... umm Grease, "Centre Stage" (don't ask).... lots of trashy movies that we had on video around the house or films that my sister used to watch all the time.

What scenes in movies always make you cry?

What scenes in movies always make you cry, no matter how many times you have seen the film.... and no matter how lame the film is!! We have probably had topics like this before, but oh well. I always cry in Looking for Alibrandi when the guy suicides and there is the funeral scene...

    Rules for Customers

Speaking of customers stealing things, what are the weirdest things you have had customers steal from the places that you work? At my parents shop we have had everything stolen... from outdoor furnature, pizza oven trays, posters off the walls, mirrors out of the bathrooms, salt n pepper...

    Rules for Customers

LOL I work as a cashier in electrical at Harvey Norman as well..... same problems. Especially with the credit card thing. And who the fuck comes and tries to get finance at like 10 mins to 5..... like hello! Talk about impulse buying! We always have late customers.... like the other day this...

When you work, do you buy or bring food?

Sometimes when I am working in hospitality I can score some free food..... sometimes not. I try and bring food with me whenever possible because the cost adds up so quickly, but some days I am just disorganized and end up buying my food. At one place where I work there is only a Wendys and...

Telling the Truth - Related Texts

Another book which could be good is called "Bearing Witness".... it's about journalists at war, and the ethical issues that arise from different situations. It is kind of full of short stories, so you could just pick one of the short stories to analyse.

Schapelle Corby - Innocent or Gulity?

Does anyone else think that in many ways Mad Ron has damaged Schapelle's case, despite funding her legal counsel? I mean, all the corruption allegations he has made are bound to piss off the judge and authorities.... he speaks to the media while he is emotional and doesn't think about the...

    education for the rich only?

There were no scholarships at UTS for humanities students. And trust me, I looked in to every possible avenue. Anyway, it's only like a month until I can get YA now, and then I might be able to get a commonwealth learning scholarship, so my financial woes will lessen considerably.
