    Law Question [torts]

Negligent mistatement will be unlikely where there wasn't "reasonable reliance." Informal context detracts from it being reasonable. Their special skill and expertise adds to it being reasonable.

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

There might be a god, but not the god christianity talks about. It might be a designer who is just as flawed as we are. That would make more sense if you think about it; she made us, watched us grow, and then found something better to do. I await the day she accidentally steps on us or something :)

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

If you believe thought and reasoning is a waste of time, good luck to you. Just because we can't spit out 'x' doesn't mean what we're doing is pointless.

I wouldn't say circles. Just long paths a lot of people can't be bothered challenging because they can't see a giant flashing billboard at the end telling them the answer.

haha I deliberately said that though :P

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

Or something before the universe? By universe you could mean the area that all the matter occupies - it could have been empty beforehand. In which case something wouldn't necessarily be "outside" the universe, more occupying the space which the universe now resides in. But anyway, how this leads...

    IT in UTS and USYD

I began a B. Information Technology last year at Sydney, before transferring to arts/law at UNSW. I was impressed with what I saw, but basically, here are my thoughts - If you want to become a computer programmer, goto UNSW and do computer science. It has a supremely strong reputation for...

Well said! True, we invent labels for our fears and/or unknowns Exactly

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

I get the feeling you "delight in professing opinions which are not your own" :) I see what you're getting at but can we know that it cannot exist in the natural world? I don't think you can definitely say that. Mainly because when you start having different worlds to explain things, it...

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

I don't see any reason why it couldn't, except for the practical problem of infinite regression (what was the cause of the first mover?). But having a mystical alternate world and/or god simply because we don't know is a fairly useless answer to the problem.

Waterfoul you do realise morality is independant of god don't you

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

Well I wouldn't accept that, necessarily. I mean that assumes that there is a world outside of the natural world doesn't it?

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

Great minds think alike :) Sounds like the classic Aquinas argument of the 'prime mover' - 1. Everything had a cause 2. Every cause is the effect of a previous cause 3. Something must have started it all 4. Therefore God is the first cause, creator of the universe But it is guilty of...

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

Who's to say purpose is objective? What's wrong with defining our own purpose of existence? I understand that, even if god does not exist, religion may have benefits, such as providing hope, etc. I suppose that is fair enough, so long as people don't take it too far. If it were possible to...

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

I agree. But the reverse is also true: Nobody can ever profess to know, through reason and cold facts, that there is a god. Just because we can't understand something doesn't mean it must be true. In ancient times if some sheep died or there was an earthquake or some such thing, they may have...

    Sellout?

Green preferences notwithstanding, I think Labor's proposal was actually a generous policy. $800 million for retraining, work transition, etc, wasn't it? They are at least placing a large amount in place for the workers. It had to be done sometime; the forest isn't going to be there forever...

    Bomb scare ends in anti-climax

LOL It's airline policy not to imply ownership in the event of a dildo. We use the indefinite aricle: "a dildo." Never... "your dildo."

christianity and dinosaurs> can they be friends?

Ah, no. My family and I celebrate christmas as a traditional time of giving. Period. We are not religious and for us, and many people, it has no relevance to that effect, despite its origin.

Faith: Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
