    Anyone ready for UMAT?

If it's anything to go by, waaay back in 2014 when I did medentry I scored on average, 102/134 but I rarely followed the 3 hour limit - did most the papers in like 4-5 hours because I procrastinated quite significantly haha - and this translated to 95%ile in the real thing.

    Anyone ready for UMAT?

The 90 ATAR wouldn't even make the ATAR cutoff at any uni haha (unless ATSI) 99.95 can get you into many places :) That said a 90 ATAR isn't really comparable to a 70 UMAT like 100 UMAT is to 99.95 Pikachu, you're right in that statistically speaking - probably the MAJORITY of people who...

    Anyone ready for UMAT?

I disagree with your last statement - UMAT is just as important if not more important compared to ATAR in most selection criterion for medicine. Depends on what you're aiming for. If you're serious about studying medicine (and that it isn't just an option floating around there just in case you...

Understanding of content ≠ Good Essays. HELP

Don't bother writing a couple of essays a week. Quality > quantity. What's the point of writing 10 shabby essays, barely improving with each - when you can write a few band6/perfect ones - definitely spend time working on e.g. CAD and doing your research, consulting all the textbooks to make the...

How Can I Force Myself to Write Every Day?

Instead of writing dozens of creatives to practise writing 40 minute creatives, have you considered writing just 1 or 2 and perfecting it then more or less memorise it so you can use it to adapt to essay questions to come? Just something that worked for me and most others (it is rare for...

Discussion Thread for Atar Notes & other forums

Donkily, I think you're being a bit idealistic with your suggestions. Sure, some people love to help - but even that comes with limits. Suggesting that people re-learn high school content that is completely useless to them - just for the sake of answering a few questions people MIGHT have, or...

Discussion Thread for Atar Notes & other forums

To be honest, I don't think mods are expected to answer HSC questions. At least back in 2014, queries were generally answered by the people in the same year, year above and the year above that and mods facilitate the discussion (by creating e.g. marathons) or regulating the discussion so it...

undergrad degrees as a pathway to med

A bit of research can yield good results :) Google, ask people in the course/industry etc etc (although you need to be critical, because there is a lot of misinformation that is spread around - in bos as well!)

undergrad degrees as a pathway to med

You asked for degrees that are enough to be a career on its own Unfortunately, the employment prospects for med sci or pharmacy is bleak right now (unless I'm wrong - someone feel free to correct me)

undergrad degrees as a pathway to med

Yeh basically everything that yields jobs because there's no subject or degree requirement to study medicine undergrad So perhaps a better question is what undergrad degrees you SHOULDN'T do as a pathway to med. (med sci/biomed, pharmacy, perhaps science as some of the ones I can think of off...

    How will uni be like?

I miss that part of high school. In uni, nobody cares lol. If you fail then you're just a number. So no, they don't tell you off and you pretty much have to be the one in charge of your own learning WRT original post - actually, it's entirely possible to get through 3 years of uni without...

What are exams like in uni?

They are weird and I feel, not really standardised like they are in the HSC (where a huge board comes together to write FAIR and *DOABLE* questions). You can get these questions which you feel like is way out of your scope - questions that you'd have no idea how to answer coz they ask things...

    90+ in UMAT

That's kinda subjective - depends on who you are? For 90% of the people, it will be hard For the remaining 10% it isn't UMAT is really like an IQ test - you can't really change your outcome through studying etc that much.

What ATAR/UMAT should I aim for to be competitive for medicine in 2018?

Where do you want to study medicine anyway? Coz like A1 said - some uni's like UQ require 97 ATAR (if you did 4u maths) and around 90ish UMAT - imo, this is about the easiest way to get into medicine
  15. I

What ATAR/UMAT should I aim for to be competitive for medicine in 2018?

A reasonable atar/UMAT combo imo is 99 atar/90 UMAT. That gets you interviews in many places

What ATAR/UMAT should I aim for to be competitive for medicine in 2018?

For UNSW People say that you want to have 99 ATAR and 95+ UMAT to be competitive You'll get an interview with scores lower than that, but to be competitive that's the sort of scores you want to obtain. Coz I heard somewhere that the median atar is like 99.6 Median umat is like 97-8%ile So it...

Hi, The link as I can see as of this post is not broken. Also, I have included a sample of chemistry as part of the updated thread. ANNOUNCEMENT TO PREVIOUS PURCHASERS OF THE CHEMISTRY CORE - I was recently alerted that a section was missing from Module 1, Section 2. I sincerely apologise to...

How to effectively study for uni?

If you're handwriting, print out lecture slides and write on them/annotate Or better alternative, type up your notes. With adequate typing speed you might even be able to capture everything the lecturer says - and you can write it up in a document or OneNote so you can refer to it when you are...

    How necessary is attending lectures?

Or you might consistently watch the lecture - but take 2 or 3 hours to get through a 1 hour lecture because you procrastinate. Which is ok I reckon if it is just 1 lecture but if you have a lot of lectures it adds up - depends on what course you're studying
