during my hsc year, i only did one shift a week in retail. seldomly, 2 shifts if they were desperate and i was okay with keeping up with hw assessments etc. but every now and then i'd take weeks off, i.e. during trials and such things. it's definitely manageable, you just gotta prioritise, quit...
