    Using sources in Ancient History

Since Ancient History has such a ridiculous amount of content, its actually not necessary to go into great depth when citing sources in exams. 1. Citing modern sources would generally be from Historians, so you would say, Historian A argues that....., whilst Historian B holds the perception...

    How are State Ranks calculated?

It's not that weird...Half of your hsc mark is made up of externals, so that means the guy who came first in the state performed best in the externals. & The top 4 internal people all must have been within a few marks of each other in the external exam, so the guy who came first externally...

    How are State Ranks calculated?

All school marks are moderated by how well your school goes in the hsc to make it 'fair'. So if people are getting an average of 70ish at your school, but then in the hsc they get average marks in the 80s, then all your school marks would get scaled up to be in the 80s. So it doesn't really...

    Studying Business

Business studies is the easiest subject to study for in my opinion Just memorise the syllabus dot points, and everything else kind of comes naturally/ is easy to bullshit. (ie. mostly common sense) Or if you're not good at learning the content, then go through successone hsc questions + answers...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

If you plan on starting uni next year, its not too late to apply in around june next year. Because a cadetship is normally 4 years, but if you start it in the 2nd year of uni, you basically get as much work experience (2 full years) as everyone else. So its not really a disadvantage to be...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

VCE is melbourne right? I'm pretty sure its a bit late to apply for most cadetships now, and i'm not sure how different sydney is to melbourne BUT i know a few firms (especially the smaller ones) who still seem to be looking for cadets, and my friend actually got knocked back by one a month ago...

    atar estimate - be honest!

No offense, but you have no idea what you're talking about. In a school ranked 600 or so, if you look at the ranks which are done by percentage of DAs (exams where the scores are over 90), the percentage is less than 1%. This doesn't automatically translate to 1% getting an atar over 90, but it...

Few questions on UAC/Course preferences for next year

I don't know the answers to all the questions, but i'll try my best! 1. No, i'm pretty sure they just give you your first preference. If you don't qualify for your first preference then you would get one of your others. 2. Early offers are only for a very limited amount of courses (eg. distance...

    How are State Ranks calculated?

'Students are ranked by their HSC mark. Where students have equal HSC marks, they are then ranked by the average of their examination marks and their assessment marks, each taken to one decimal place.' Wait so does that mean it is ranked on externals, but several people would get the same mark...

    chances of doing interview?

If you do get an odd text type, just turn all the main arguments/thesis from your essay into whatever is asked. For example, for an interview, if you had to do an interview with say, the author of your novel or something, just ask questions where you can produce answers which are basically all...

    How are State Ranks calculated?

Some kid in my physics class thinks that State Ranks are calculated from your HSC exam result ie external mark. Isnt it calculated from your overall HSC mark? As in internal and external?

    Questions about HSC Mark Moderation

Questions about HSC mark moderation :) So i remember someone telling me that in the hsc, all your subjects are scaled/moderated against how well you do in English. Is this true, and if so how does this work? Another question/scenario: I'd say my cohort is really smart at maths + sciences, but...

Vote on a subject! I need subject selection help!!!

Seriously, at least reduce SOME of your choices...haha. You should pick ancient > modern in my opinion, because ancient is really interesting :) But if you don't love history a LOT then seriously don't consider doing both, if you want to do well, you have to put in a lot of effort, and no...

HELP! Trials in 1 week and I"m sick.

vick's vapo drops do a good job of temporary relief from sore throat + runny/blocked nose- but that's more of a solution for sickness during exam periods. & they don't actually contain anything but eucalyptus so you can eat as many as you want Codral for flu also works okay, but they're none of...

    Pre-HSC/Trial Despairs.

Wow, it sucks to be to your situation, i hope you're okay =/ But in terms of appealing, you should definitely do it. I'm not sure how it would work for your school, since some schools might just base getting extra marks on your previous results, so if you haven't done too well, it doesn't help...

    English help

Yeah, definitely. Though just saying 'dialogue' and 'stage directions' wouldn't be very good techniques to use, you should probably find some other techniques, but its okay if you're just trying to pack a whole bunch of techniques in the same sentence.

Vote on a subject! I need subject selection help!!!

No, i think you should seriously think very carefully before considering doing both histories. When i say there is A LOT of content, there is actually a ridiculously massive amount in both history courses. The amount of content and preparation required for ancient history for me doesn't even...

    Locus HELP

Haha, no its not actually tutoring, it just has videos/explanations for all the topics covered in all years of maths. So it would be ideal in a situation like yours where you've missed a lesson on locus, you could just go watch the lesson & print out the summary on the website. Then spiralflex...
