    Chemistry Study/Game

Electronegativity - The extent to which an atom is able to attract bonding electrons to itself Grrr... OK, Emma, then Budz, then me... then Jaydels lol

Follow on from mine - weak acid didn't come from anywhere :P

    Chemistry Study/Game

Hmm... I'm gonna take Emma-Jade's... Yeast fermentation - A means of extracting ethanol from carbohydrates by exposing them to yeast cultures at temperatures between 34-37 degrees Celsius in the absence of oxygen and in the presence of water and nutrients.

    Chemistry Study/Game

Detonation - An extremely rapid form of spontaneous combustion resulting in a local explosion I'm surprised you guys aren't going for the periodic table yet! Everything from A-Z can be found, there ;)

    Equlibrium

Chill out, man, it's coooooool! Lowering the temperature of the eqm system will increase the solubility of CO2, by LCP causing an eqm shift to the right and the formation of more H2CO3. This occurs by the following: CO2(g) + H2O(l) ---> H2CO3(aq) Lowering the temperature of the eqm...

MY QUESTION IS, DOES LENZ"S LAW ONLY APPLY TO MOTORS AND HENCE BACK EMF?

Ha ha, you're wigging me out with that crazy CAPS on - caps off typing style, Mel! Whenever there is relative motion between a conductor and a magnetic field, a back EMF will be induced in opposition to the direction of the motion, or the direction of the applied force. This is the case for...

Eutrophication - the cyclic emergence of algal blooms in bodies of water Hmmmm.... the plot thinckens....

    HSC Tips - Graphs

I disagree. Sketching both graphs, critical points on the resultant graph are easily found through inspection. Calculus brings inefficiency to the curve sketching process, and should be eschewed at all costs. Stick by your former argument, man.

    Using states

I wasn't contending that. A misstatement, however, could convince the examiner that you are not conversant with the ideas behind the question, whereupon he/she may hold the error up to a lack of knowledge and choose to penalise more severely.

    Worth learning integration by parts

That's a good point. Just because a table of standard integrals is provided in exams, doesn't mean it hurts to become familiar with some of the more common ones yourself.

    Using states

Absolutely. You'd be better off erring on the side of caution and not writing anything than putting something down you're not sure about and risking more for it.

    Another stupid math problem...

nick, Brodie's just pulling these from the Chapter 3 Challenge in Maths in Focus (Ext 1) for the Prelim course! lol

    How many topics u done?

Yeah, ours was easy, too! We only had 10 multiple choice, and almost all the other questions had us graphing given data or doing simple substitutions :P

    emf/current

In the case of elecromagnetic induction, You should say: an emf has been induced across ends of the conductor And you should say: By Lenz' Law, current will flow in the direction such to oppose the change in magnetic flux that caused the induced emf Note that, qualitatively, emf and...

    Stupid year 11 math problem...

Yeah, man, but it's a dependent variable that "responds" to changes in x. The pronumeral, x, is usually always taken as the independent variable in mathematics (Like a function of x, where y, the ordinate, responds to changes in x, the abscissa). In other words, the question is to be solved with...

    Using states

There's no one way, man. Over time, though, your exposure to Chem and the reactions involved should foster in you a sense of which states go with what. Often there'll be clues in the questions that enable you to make pretty informed judgments, but, otherwise, try to become as proficient as can...

    BIG NAMES in 05

Good question. No teacher at my school has ever remarked on this, and I, personally, have never heard of it.

    Worth learning integration by parts

As you validly point out, yeah, IBP can present a simpler way of coming to some conclusions, and any measures you can take to simplify not only your answers, but also the processes by which you reach your answers, are invaluable. Be aware, though, that you'll be awarded no extra marks for...
