That's the key. You need to know everything about the text, and you need to be able to integrate and draw things together effectively and succinctly - i.e. you can't just keep waffling on about something irrelevant and hope it'll get you marks, you basically need to hit the nail on the head...

ATAR calculators work off aligned marks. They are then scaled (through the ATAR calculator) to obtain an aggregate score out of 500 (which adds up the best 10 units worth of scaled marks) and this then translates into an ATAR. Hope this helps. :)
