Ross Gittins reviews the HSC Economics exam

MC in eco, as in legal, and as would be in history if introduced, are basically bullshit.

    Pressed for time?

I only spent about 30 mins on the WW1 questions, that really helped. I think time constraints are worse in english personally.

    Section I - Multiple Choice

I'm pretty sure it should be (CPI current year)/(CPI previous year) to find the rate of inflation... Basically, no, that's wrong is my understanding.

    Band Cut-Offs

    You were saying?
  8. A

    Section I - Multiple Choice

It's D. You disproved A. If export prices rise the terms of trade will improve, not deteriorate. Hence it cannot be B. The CAD may improve for C, but inflation (at least, imported inflation) cannot occur as an appreciation if anything would cause imported DEflation to occur.

    Band Cut-Offs

English scales much better than ancient, and yet they align very similarly. Do you see what I am saying?
  10. A

    Band Cut-Offs

Scaling isn't indicative of aligning...From what we've seen, extension history aligns basically none at all, and yet it's one of the best scaling subjects. We don't know unless we've seen anyone get back raw marks, which as far as I know we haven't. But because economics has always seemed easy...
  11. A

    Section I - Multiple Choice

    1. It's most correct answer. 2. is B and not D. 3. question 11 the answer is C or D. B doesn't make sense, if an appreciation occurs then terms of trade improve.

    One contribution......

He did many great things for this country. The only really bad thing I can remember from year 10 was him fucking up the economy- though that was a pretty bad thing, lol

Sections III, IV - Extended Response

I know a guy who wrote 45 pages in our modern exam. And I've heard of people writing more than that; so it's unlikely they're lying. 8.5 for micro essay, that was awesome. Only 6 for macro though, ran out of time =\

    Section I - Multiple Choice

You're sure A is correct for 20? Awesome if it is :D What's the answer to 16 anyone?

    Section I - Multiple Choice

    . 1-A 2-b 3-c 4-b 5-A 6-D (but I'm pretty sure I put B =\ ) 7-C 8-A 9-A 10-C? 11-C 12-C 13-D 14-A 15-c 16-A or B (I put B, but I've had a mind blank, can't remember what equilibrium level of income is) 17-a 18-D 19-B (But I put A) 20-A? As far as I can tell those are the right answers, feel...

    Band 6 cutoff

Maybe low 80s. The exam wasn't that easy, even if it wasn't impossibly hard, and as legal scales so poorly my guess is it aligns pretty well; that is, if how it 'scales' is compared to the aligned mark.

    Section 2 - Crime

heheh, I talked about the executive's commitment to law enforcement...I.E. overpolicing, inconsistent laws and the targeting of certain groups in society, e.g. juveniles.
