Estimate what you got and how many pages?

    Section 1 - 7 pages - 14+ Section 2 - 12 pages - 14+ Section 3 - 10 pages - 13+ ... hopefully.

Will they screw us over for Paper 2?

Speech would be okay. It's just an essay with a couple of references to your audience chucked in and slightly less formal language depending on the demographic you're speaking to. This conversation shenanigans is slightly weirder but I guess it'd be very similar to an interview only with both...

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

I'll have a go at that, I guess. AFAIK there are also some laws in place regarding teachers hugging kids at school. Does that mean that society thinks that a hug is detrimental to a kid's development? No. It means that society thinks that teachers shouldn't be touching kids. Same thing...

So who didn't title their story

I briefly entertained the thought of making a fuss about my answers being BOS property but then I remembered that I actually want to go to uni next year and not receive a big fat "DID NOT COMPLETE EXAM" on my transcript. Gradually learning to keep my mouth shut :).

Are you allowed to have wallets??

lolol, we had one guy ask that exact question in the exam room because he'd brought his in ... the supervisors ripped on him briefly, everybody laughed and thus the tension in the room was relieved, if only for a moment.

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

    I hate that so much.

Number of Related Texts for Essay?

We've always been taught to go text by text as well ... writing two paragraphs per text (and maybe one paragraph if we add a third related text). Obviously revolving a around a central thesis, though. I don't know, I don't think I would be mentally organised enough to keep my argument...

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

Ideally, yes, but that clearly isn't practical or possible for many many families. I'm sure if my mother had been given the choice she'd have been delighted to leave me at home while she hit the shops. So yes, it does come back to one systemic "problem" which is: when you have young children...

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

Last time I checked it was also a crime to lock an adult in a room against their will, but I'm not seeing any threads about how it's against the law to send your kid to their bedroom for two hours because they tried to strangle their little brother and/or break the television screen with their...

Is smacking a child ever acceptable?

This probably isn't going to be as coherent as I'd like it to be because, let's face it, I'm only on here because I'm trying to procrastinate out of English study, but ... The biggest problem that I have with smacking is that it usually occurs because a parent has lost control of the situation...

    Yeats' poetry, how many poems?

I know TSC and Leda really well, Among School Children slightly less well (it's my third text) and I could talk on An Irish Airman / When You Are Old with not much difficulty because the poems are easy to remember so you just pull it out on the spot. I'm planning to write on three no matter...

When is your last exam, and what are doing right after it?

Modern History - November 3. And then I'm going to the nearest pub with anyone and everyone and getting drunk in the middle of the day. ... that'll probably continue for the next week or so :).

About to Enter Year 11 - Need Some Guidance Please

Re your third question: I do Extension II and I'm in a class of two and it's really no problem at all. In fact I think it's quite good because neither of us have really worried about rankings or that shiz and we've basically just worked (especially after Trials) to get our levels as high and...

Modern History Exam tomorrow - Help!

You'll have it in your head for next time :). But from the sounds of it you didn't need help anyway -- it's great that everything worked out alright for you!

Scabing marks :) (its okey for the HSC lol)

I don't really like doing it because I feel like I'm grabbing for marks, like I'm being unfair, even if I know I'm right and there's a clear mistake. But in my 3U Maths half-yearly my teacher didn't mark a whole page, so I felt justified in getting it re-checked. Moved from equal first to...

Prelim Ext 1 English - Appropriations

Maybe also look at how the values of the text have changed/remained the same. Context is important too, as has been said, and so is the intended audience of the original vs. the appropriation. You can talk about the textual value of the appropriated version and what, if anything, it adds to the...

Modern History Exam tomorrow - Help!

Firstly determine reliability and then, using the conclusions you draw, evaluate usefulness. Don't ever say that a source is completely useless -- a source (eg propaganda) can be highly useful despite being unreliable. Reliability can be determined through several factors ... you could look...

    Subject help for HSC?

I would agree that Modern is better than Ancient History in that it's more concrete and there's a lot more information out there. I'm sure you'll hear different opinions though. I would ask your teachers exactly what case studies they do for each course and make up your mind based on that...

What are YOUR privileges for being a senior at YOUR school?

We get - jerseys - a common room, kitchen, vending machines, basketball court and study centre in a separate area of the school - study centre/common room open as late or early as necessary - early leave - first priority on teachers' time - parking - MP3 players at school (not like we didn't use...
