Whats the difference between a review article & primary literature article?

hmmm, don't use New Scientist, it's like a magazine/newspaper for scientists reporting new and exciting findings. And New Scientist is not peer-reviewed, which is not suitable for you. Go for the traditional research papers or reviews.

    Biochemistry: good schools to recommend?

Yep, like others have said, any good uni would have a biochemistry major. I think biochem materials are pretty much the same anywhere really.

    Science & Cruelty to animals

well, at first year UNSW, the only dissection you'll do is dissecting a rat and a toad, which are already dead from otehr experiments passed down to first year students. If you don't like animal works, then stay away from physiology majors. You can always major in molecular stuffs like...

    Medical science- Getting very competitive

Yes, after you graduate you can go into diagnostics. One of the UNSW science graduate on this forum recently told me he got a job at the hopsital collecting specimens for diagnosis. One of my friend also got into a biotech company helping to detect breast cancer from hair samples. So really...

    Medical science- Getting very competitive

Tim, sorry to hear that. Really, don't feel you need to compete with other students to get that top 10. It just adds more pressure to yourself. If you want to do better and get better marks, compete with yourself, not others. I think when I was in first or second year, I was too competitive...

    preliminary woes?

It would be better to learn from your "school textbook" because your teacher might set exam questions based on what you have learnt from class and from the school textbook.

How to get a band 6 in biology

It's good to have long notes because you can pick and choose what you want to say in your answer. For the harder "evaluate, analyse" dot points, 1 page is sufficient. For general "describe, outline" dot points, 3-4 sentences to half a page is sufficient. It's also a good idea to go back to...

Hey well done Generator for getting through the Honours year. Urban geography sounds very interesting. At the moment, I am finding it difficult balancing between my lab work and writing at the same time. My research is on medical microbiology and I cannot believe we are 2 months in and I still...

I think the original poster wants to know the two most important rules when DRAWING diagrams viewed under a light microscopy, which are: 1. Always include a scale. 2. Label all structures.

Diploma in Innovation Management: worth it?

Two of my friends are/were doing it. One dropped it because it's too demanding to do it along with normal load (and quite expensive). The other completed half of the diploma and don't want to do it anymore, but will finish it after Honours (apparently the units within the diploma are killing his...

You can't poke holes on the cling weap because the microbes would get in. :D Instead of using the glass flask with swan neck, you can replace the glass with a bottle with a plastic tube in an S shape.
