Will my biology class pull me down?

The only way they can pull your assessment mark down is by you not coming first in your class int he final HSC exam. If you also top the HSC exam in biology at your school, then your exam mark will also become your assessment mark. e.g. if you came first with a HSC exam mark of 92, and is ranked...

    gel electrophoresis

Don't forget you need to use a buffer to run the gel. You can just have a slab of agarose gel and put your sample into the well. You need a buffer suspension, allowing ions to run through the gel.

    too overdone??

Originality comes from how you plan and execute your research, not whether your topic is original or not. Every year I get students asking me this question over and over again, but really, the way you carry out, write and construct your PIP is how you show your originality. And this is what the...

    Products of donated blood?

You can transfuse WBC. You probably transfuse these cells to immunocompromised individuals anyway, so they don't really have a functional immune system in the first place to "reject" these foreign cells. Hopefully you get what I mean.

question on EXTRA UAI marks for ESL students (dont know if sb has asked already b4..)

I am not sure whether the EAS scheme still exsit. The disadvantage scheme, where people who are in ESL, or have financial reasons can apply for the EAS thing. You don't actually get bonous 5 UAI marks on your UAI, but when you apply for various university courses, if your UAI is less than that...

The Search for Better Health Challenge Question!

Antibodies can bind onto bacterial surface and help phagocyte to engulf the bacteria. This process is called opsonisation, which just means the antibody make the bacteria more "tasty" to the phagocytes. But this process is not always neccessary. :P Hint: what helps bacteria to survive...

The Search for Better Health Challenge Question 2!

Pathogens can be anything, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protoza. As long as they causes disease, they are termed "pathogens". Viruses can be cultured. Size isn't really an issue when you try to culture something.

    t cells?

Yes they do. You are correct lil_georgi_gal. The T cells have surface structures known as Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC). These MHCs are responsible to "present" foreign peptide to the B cell receptor. Subquently, the B cell gets activated and clonal expansion occurs to generate many...

    2 types of gene therapy

The latter one doesn't sound right. I think you meant "stem cells taken out of the blastocyst", right? How can you take out stem cells in the human body, and fix those few cells and insert them back into a body and expect those cells to work in the context of the entire organ/body? Remember...

    t cells?

Hi Cade. I agree most of the information there. There are a few things you need to take note of: 1. I'm sure some textbook would tell you supressor T cell exit. In the last 30 year there has been a major debate over the existance of these supressor T cells, and we don't knwo whether they...
