The questions will typically be designed such that 4u methods won't be needed to answer the question anyway (at least not needed to answer it more efficiently).

I think the new syllabus will cover Bernoulli random variables when you do probability and statistics (then extending that to Binomial distributions). That's as close as you'll get to it.

When I did the 3u paper, I completed the last question first and then proceeded in normal order. Worked pretty well as I was forced to not squander too much time on the easier questions and at the same time get a decent attempt at a harder question, without the time pressure that comes with...

P is not a general point on the hyperbola. It is a special point on the hyperbola with those particular coordinates (you could almost say it is a point of intersection of an ellipse and hyperbola with the same values of a and b - but the ellipse is not drawn out).
