Is it possible to do travel writing for your major?

Of course you could, under the overarching "short story" genre. Why would you want to though? You'll have to justify that eventually in your RS. Also, I'd think of a concept *first* before choosing your form. Generally that way you end up with the form being most suited to the concept, which...

    Young Writers Showcase 14?!

I read December 18th somewhere, not sure how true that is though! They only finished marking the works recently though (I think the Saturday before last or something similar) so I don't expect the nominations to come out for a while. :)

    hmmmm....

Very, very likely. I'd say be prepared for both one and two related texts though. (So like 1.5 essays for each xD)

Using 2 Related Texts when they ask for 1 - Please help

Dude... just prepare a spare paragraph of your more favoured text to use in case. I've got one Mod C essay with 2 related and one with 1 related just in case; why throw away marks? (Same goes for AOS) And yes, they will mark you down, not sure by how much though.

It is fine to use songs for related text in belonging?

How to improve short answer responses? Tips + Advice?

Shouldn't take that long. I always use the reading time to pick out 1 or 2 techniques per text :)

How to improve short answer responses? Tips + Advice?

    1. State the purpose of the composer. Like "Dickinson exposes the ephemeral nature of an individual's belonging to nature" 2. (Using 2 techniques per mark) prove your thesis w/ analysis 3. Effect on reader/viewer/audience... Make your answer SPECIFIC to the form - always mention whether it's an...

Need help and advice on subject selection!!

You know scaling only works in your favour if you're doing well, right? I'd advise you to drop the English extension, it does become more (not specifying how much because obviously with each individual it varies) work and more challenging if English isn't one of your strengths. And don't stay...

Why not try EE2? It's a handy unit to get out of the way before the actual HSC exams :D

Thanks man; anyone willing to offer a second opinion? :)

What kind of mark would I need in the HSC exam to scrape a B6 for chem?

My teacher showed the class this document containing our trial marks, and the HSC marks obtained by last year's cohort with around the same marks -- mine (77%) ended up being around a 89.1 HSC mark. My school doesn't traditionally do *that* well at chemistry; anywhere from 8-12 people each...

what should i do with my life

Y'know, it's not really worth it repeating the HSC, your ATAR will be good enough to get you *somewhere*. I mean case in point Charles Darwin university's law cutoff in 2012 was 60.55. xD

What is a VIVA VOCE? English Extension 2?

    1. During a Viva Voce you essentially talk about your MW/concept, etc. with your markers... more impromptu than a speech. (I like to think of it as an open book exam lol) 2. It's only hand-in tasks, you don't have any exams.

    B. Law & B. Information Technology - Y/N??

Okay so this may sound like a long bow, but what's the general opinion on combining I.T. and law? I'm thinking of studying at ANU or Uni Adelaide; the subjects I do this year are - MX1 - Mathematics - English Advanced - EE1 - EE2 - Biology - Chemistry The ATAR cutoff shouldn't be a...

For those of you who have sat the GAMSAT; how different was it to the UMAT?

I'm close to someone whose sat the GAMSAT before (last year). From what I learnt; most people won't have a high enough GAMSAT to qualify for med on the first try. It's more expensive; it's much longer, and yes there are three sections (section III kind of assumes you have an at least Y12 level...
