yeah.. i agree.. sometimes the 'discuss' keyword isn't used properly by BOS. antibiotic resistance is BADBAD BAD loll off the top of my head i can't really think of any positives to antibiotic resistance.

    Basic acid/base questions

In galvanic cells... the oxidant and reductant are separated so that direct displacement doesnt occur and thus an electric current can be produced. If you placed a piece of zinc metal in a copper sulfate solution, then the zinc would displace Cu2+ ions in solution.. forming Zinc ions and Cu...

    exo or endo?

Actually the oxidation/combustion of Iron Sulfide is exothermic... because there is more energy released in the formation of bonds with S and O2 as well as the iron and oxygen atoms to form iron(III) oxide, than is absorbed to break the bonds of FeS2 and O2. Aren't all combustions exothermic...

studying 8-10 hrs a day during STUVAC

during breaks.. i might have a snack.. like a piece of fruit and have a good drink of water (people usually get carried away when studying, get dehydrated.. and can come down with a headache). For lunch.. I usually allow a full 1 hour break. Relax your mind a little... i'd watch some TV or...

    exo or endo?

Well... as a rule of thumb... exothermic reactions involve the formation of bonds ( when you break bonds, you absorb energy from surroundings to break those bonds... thus such a reaction would be endothermic). Endothermic reactions usually involve the breaking of bonds, such as the...

What are you guys doing to study?

For 2u maths.. past trial/hsc papers is the way to go. Screw the textbook revision.. only do that if you have trouble with a particular area, otherwise just do past papers. Also... before the exam (like night before)..its best to just go over all formulas and make sure u know them.

studying 8-10 hrs a day during STUVAC

Today me and 3 others started a study group. It went OK I guess, there was some slight tendencies to procrastinate and talk about other things though lol. Study group is good because you can actually use whatever you have studied to articulate knowledge. Its a good way to exercise what you...

studying 8-10 hrs a day during STUVAC

I'm talking about a 'temporary' timetable... not a regular timetable that is set for each week. For example, on a particular day u know u want to cover a certain number of topics from a subject, or whatever... so make a timetable only for one day... so that you cover whatever you aimed to cover...

studying 8-10 hrs a day during STUVAC

lol i've pulled those kinds of study days right before trials. it's not easy. Best way of going about it is timetabling the day to do a solid 10 hours of PLANNED study... know exactly what you're going to study. most of the time if your not exactly sure what to study, you'll end up...

Does BOS scale raw HSC Marks?

As title says... does BOS Scale our HSC Marks.. In other words... is the mark averaged from ur exam mark and ur moderated assessment mark then scaled by the BOS? I've read a sticky in this subforum about raw HSC marks... but I don't quite understand. E.g. If I achieve a raw HSC Mark of 85...

    Studying

When you go to do past papers now.. you'd be really surprised at how much u actually know without having to go back to notes to double check etc etc Don't get put off by the fact you haven't studied so much.... there's heaps you already know. Now it's just about refining everything.. going...

    Basic acid/base questions

In aqueous acid solutions, where water is obviously present, H3O+ ions are formed, NOT H+, because the following reaction occurs: eg. HCl + H2O --> Cl- + H3O+ HCl donates a H+ proton to H2O, as per definition of Bronsted-Lowry acids. Whenever an acid ionises, think of it as donating a...

    Chemical properties of radioisotopes

Tc-99m has multiple oxidation states, therefore it can bind with many organic molecules such as glucoheptonates, phosphonates etc. Thus it can be used for many different types of diagnostic imaging. It releases low-energy gamma radiation, thus does not pose any radiation risk to healthy tissues...

    Industrial chemistry practicals

1+2. Equilibrium: I believe there is a prac using pipettes and water (changing water levels) to simulate equilibrium. Also, we carried out an experiment using NO2 gas in the equilibrium reaction: 2NO2 <-> N2O4. We tested the effect of temperature on the equilibrium, as well as pressure. 3...

    My own sample exam responses

You guys should remember... the HSC Writing Booklet lines are massive.. when I compared my school's writing booklets with the HSC ones... one line of the HSC writing booklet could fit two lines of what I wrote in my school's writing booklets. In other words, in the HSC.. I should be able to...

Essay Structure: Remember your SEXY paragraphs!

Re: How to write a BAND 6 essay? I think what they mean by 'integration' is, that the various criteria or 'tickable points' in a response should be fluently woven together with a sophisticated use of language. An A-range response features a sophisticated use of language - so this is how I...

Telling the Truth: What to write about documentarys?

Look at how these documentaries represent their "truth"... do they use scientific/technical jargon with qualified scientists/experts to ENDORSE their truth? Examine the way in which they deliver content to you as a responder in such a way that you accept their truth - perhaps shots of letters...
