    End Of Mathematics!

You need math for your further study regardless of what you will going to do after HSC. Even if you not going to study later, math is like language, you have to use it in order to survive. (though mostly only use basic counting techniques and algebra). So, this is not the end of Math.

How did you find the difficulty?

A lot of "show" questions. I put this exam as relatively easy (or moderate in difficulty). I didn't do past papers or any other trials (other than my school's trial) though so I can't compare it.

Maths Ext 1 - General thoughts on the exam

Not doing 1e Got the same for 3c(ii) I think 4a(i) is -1 or 1. I forgot. and (ii) is 0... what 4a(iii)...??? Tell me you are referring to 4c.

What did you and didn't do?

Not doing Question 7 b, d and e. Can't be bothered with differentiation with only a minute left... 7 marks gone. Plus not doing 1 part e, induction and 6 part a(iii), and probably forgot to write in a proper sentence on question 2 part c(iii), so another 8 marks gone. Pretty content with...

    Predict your raw mark

56/84 - 69/84 With no silly mistakes, 65/84 - 69/84 (The probability of that happening is minus one plus 0!)

    Induction Question

Didn't attempt :D After 2 minutes of trying to prove true for n=1, I gave up, it is only 3 marks, I only have less than 30 minutes left and I haven't looked at Question 6 and 7, so skipped it and at the end have no time to go back... Hopefully 1 mark for rambling though...:D

    Stopped previous trends...

    9 marks on probability, hmmm...

Maths Ext 1 - General thoughts on the exam

I was walking into the exam hall, thinking, here we go Math again, I am just going to do what I can providing my lack of preparation. Well, I was quite surprise that I was cruising up to induction question (5d). Of course miss few questions like 1e, but overall it is relatively easy if you know...

What have you learned about yourself during hsc?

For me, I have learned that I am a one-day deadline person. During these last minutes, I am going to pour out all my effort and the result is usually satisfactory. Then I will talk about it with someone (like in Exam Thoughts forum where I double my post counts in a week) and then realise I...

Predict raw mark /120 + scaled mark

No, in 1993 or 1994 there is one guy who got full mark RAW in 4u I believe. This year is comparatively easy somehow, I was really hoping this exam to be the real killer so this year will be remembered, but it wasn't as hard as my liking. I'm not saying that I killed the test.

Maths Ext 2 - General thoughts on the exam

Re: Maths EE2 - General thoughts on the exam 1.(e) Yeah, I think it is a mistake, but not a big one. 4.(d) I just said because the four points are on a circle, they are cyclic quadrilateral and have such and such properties then you stated rules for parallelogram. It's only 1 mark, and lucky...

    Comparison to previous years?

According to the syllabus, approximately 30% of your study time of 4 units should be devoted to harder 3 Unit topics. That's about 36/120, so 45 is just above average. Heck, who is going to read math syllabi (isn't syllabi plural for syllabus?) anyway?
  13. XcarvengerX

    Comparison to previous years?

Don't know because I wasn't looking at past papers, nor study at all. I think it is pretty good for HSC standard according to my other subjects' exams, and certainly harder than my trials (which is a joke).

Maths Ext 2 - General thoughts on the exam

Re: Maths EE2 - General thoughts on the exam Him or vafa from Bored of Studies perspective. As for me, this is a fair test, made to capacitate all students in Math Extension 2. Though I won't argue that this year there are more textbook style questions. So, if you have studied your past...

    5d) Probability

I think I forgot few combinations. The chance of draw is 0.6, so if the home team has 0.344 chance to win, the away team only has 0.056 chance to win which is awfully low. Or is it 0.1296 the chance of draw, which means the away team has higher chance of winning? I don't know, did you use...

    Q8

Write random and unfinished stuff, hoping to get the easy marks. 75% of my answers are unsatisfactory. Part b (iv) is supposed to be 0 I think because e-2√n will become 0 as n approaches infinity. I wrote infinity because I didn't see the small minus sign in my haste to catch up with time.

    5d) Probability

    (i) How do you guys get 81? I did try to calculate by writing them out, and I didn't think it is 81. (ii) Everyone got this. (iii) You just find all the combination where the Home team win, THEN calculate like you did in part (ii) for each of these combination. I think it is around 0.07.

Predict raw mark /120 + scaled mark

63 to 82/120 RAW 82 is my maximum. 70/120 RAW is going to scale you up to band E4 I believe. (according to trend from past years)

    Want to compare multiple-choice answers?

The bold line is the part where you got it wrong. Look at the diagram again. The conductor is already perpendicular to the magnetic field line, therefore you use sin 90. The 45 degree is to indicate that the conductor is indeed passing through as the diagonal of the square magnetic field.

    Want to compare multiple-choice answers?

7 is D because you have to use pythagoras to calculate the diagonal length AND also sin 90 NOT sin 45. If you use either pythagoras but sin 45 OR sin 90 but not pythagoras, then you get C which is incorrect.
