failing a subject at uni, does not make u dumb

The fact that you got into uni means you *can* pass your subjects. There are students who initially didn't get into uni, went to TAFE, transferred to uni after a year or so and never fail a subject...but some who easily got into uni but somehow accumulated a whole plethora of failures.

how is every1 goin with their exams?

I think all the subjects I've done (mostly CSCI) require at least a 50% in the final exam to pass. It doesn't matter if the final exam is only worth 10% of the whole subject and you've already got 50+.

How u uni ppl take notes while the letucer talks?

It depends on the subject. I never take notes in programming subjects but do on Maths.

how is every1 goin with their exams?

Don't you have to pass the exam to pass the subject? I have a subject that technically only requires me about 6/50 for an overall mark of 50/100 to get a Pass but I can't pass the subject unless I get a 25 in the exam.

American vs British (AU included) education

No I didn't. Most of their 5 year programs are single degrees. It's also not possible to enter law or medicine right after high school. One has to finish a degree before being admitted to law school. Law and medicine schools in the US are graduate schools. Which part of my post did you think...

    Travelling to gong from Sydney

And you'd probably want to make sure you don't leave any uni stuff at home! Living close by is convenient, I just go back if I realise I'd forgotten an assignment or something...

Yes, they use it like this: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Cum Laude)

American vs British (AU included) education

Just something I typed to kill time... Here are some differences between American and British education systems. Australia uses one closely related to the UK. Passing marks UK: 50% US: 70 or 75% Awards for high achieving students after graduation UK: with Distinction, with High...

    parents degrees?

There is actually more pressure on students whose parents have degrees. I for one can say this. My dad has an engineering degree and an MBA. Mom has a commerce degree and an MBA as well. My dad actually paid for my mom's MBA when they were dating...so you can imagine the pressure my sister and I...

    Travelling to gong from Sydney

A lot of students travel to Wollongong from Sydney on a daily basis. This shouldn't be a problem. There are also car pools available.

    Major or not

Doing a major doesn't necessarily mean you're taking the easy way out. I'm bent on not doing one because I want to do the subjects I want. I reckon it'd be alright since most other unis don't have majors for computer science like UNSW or Sydney Uni.

    Major or not

No, you can graduate with just a Bachelor of Computer Science. You can do a major if you pick subjects required for the major. http://www.uow.edu.au/handbook/yr2004/cour766.html Going back to the original question...

    Major or not

Do you think doing a major is important? I'm doing Bachelor of Computer Science and I want to find out if people think it's advantageous for me to take up a major as opposed to doing just a regular degree. Do employers care? Your thoughts please.

    About the Uni!!!!!!

Wow, that's far. Have you been to Wollongong before? It's really not that much of a city compared to Sydney.

    credit average

Same here. I didn't really try too hard though I wish I did and I have a C average. Last session I got a D average but mainly because the subjects were more interesting and did more work. Overall a C average is doable as long as you do some work, at least finish all assignments and sit the final...

    Computer Science: UOW/Syd/NSW?

Yes it does, actually. Computer Science is supposed to lean towards engineering and not business as like most 'modern' degrees. It's all in the ACM document. The curricula recommendations of 2001 was a product of ACM and IEEE, with staff members coming from American Ivy League schools like...
