How many of you have applied for pharmacy? (need advice)

There are two types of Masters - Masters by Research (2 years and entirely research-based) and Masters by Coursework (like an undergrad where you attend lectures etc), which is usually 1.5 years. A PhD is usually 3-4 years. Like Masters by Research it is entirely research-based. PhD research...

    Debate: Medical Sci degree---> Medicine

Not at all. Grad Med school does not care what background you have. Go for it I say. The only thing "bad" is that it is not the shortest possible degree you can do so you "lose" time before you get into med.

I know 20+ people from my cohort and only 2-3 wanted to get into med. What is your point?

    Percentiles Pass/Credit/Distinction/HD and also scaling.

It's a difficult question to answer. What percentage of each grade students get in a given subject is highly dependent on the course coordinator that manages the course content and assessments. Whether they scale the final mark is also entirely up to individual course coordinator. In some...

How do you know everyone in MedSc is going for those 15 places? Are/were you in MedSc at UNSW? Personally, Option 1 is more competitive as no more than a few is ever successful in gaining admission from transfer after 1 year at uni.

Oh, there is a 3306 now?!!!! Seriously! Brett is fantastic - highly recommended. But his research group is huge, consisting of 20 researchers. Not sure if you like big labs or not - other than that he is very supportive and gives very good career advice. Marc's lab is small but like you said...

    advance science?

I'm sure you will be fine doing 3rd year Chem in 2nd year. That same guy I mentioned also did 2nd year Chem in first year and got a HD. If he can do 3rd year Chem in 2nd year, so can you.

Aren't there any CHEM courses in S2 you can do, in addition with S1 courses to form a Chem "major"? I'm sure you can start doing 3rd year chem courses in your second year given what you have been able to achieve in first year Chem subjects. I know someone who did 2 CHEM3XXX subjects in his...

I just want to firstly say "really sorry to hear that you just missed out!!" Seriously some of the students in med shouldn't even be there (I know because I'm a med tutor)... But if you really really have the passion for it you should never give up and I hope to see you in the future. Now, what...

So you can't do 2 Biochem and 2 Chem in S1?

    advance science?

Yes but you have plenty of electives left over after 1 major in chemistry or biochem, then use all those electives for your other specialisation. Really, your majors are not even shown on the UNSW Testamur. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    B Commerce/ B Science double degree?Which Uni???

I think it's really hard for anyone to answer your question. What I suggest is go to both Open days and see which campus you like. Both offers very good opportunities for students and both are outstanding universities. As to employability, graduates from both universities are highly sought...

Generally you can do 1 major and 1 minor or 2 majors. Check with your university.

Uni/Career questions by a School leaver

You will need to have at least a UAI of 95 if you wish to be considered for transferring into UNSW Med after 1 year at uni (plus a very good WAM/GPA). If you are keen on Pharm or Physio, try do a sicence degree, then transfer at the end of first year. You will need at least a Credit average...
