How Do I Choose A Study Plan Within Adv Science!!

    It is 24 UOC per session, not 30. Stage 1 Session 1: BABS1201 Molecules, Cells and Genes (6 UOC) CHEM1031 Higher Chemistry 1C (6 UOC) MATH1131 Mathematics 1A (6 UOC) or MATH1141 Higher Mathematics 1A (6 UOC) PHYS1121 Physics 1A (6 UOC) or PHYS1131 Higher Physics 1A (6 UOC) Session...

    Medsci to Medicine

All almost all students graduated with a First Class Honours degree in a MedSc or Science degree will get a science-related job.

    Just Wondering.

Without Wings is referring to "Pass with Distinction" "that formal recognition on the testamur be given of excellence in overall academic performance in undergraduate pass degree programs where an award with Honours is not available; that the award of Pass with Distinction be available...

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

Not really. There are plenty of spaces for lectures. Unless there are some subjects which have small tutorial classes, then you need to enrol in fast.

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

I think for people who haven't done 4 U, it would be better for them to just do Normal Maths (MATH1131). But of course, if you feel you are capable, then I would suggest you to do Higher Maths (MATH1141). The suggested assume knowledge for Higher Maths is "HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and...

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

If you only did 3U, then stick with normal maths (MATH1131).

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

If you feel you are comfortable with chem then do higher chem because you learn a little bit more with advanced lab work. Do maths or psychology as your elective if that is what you are interested in. Physics is a bit tough at uni.

    Med Sci @ UNCLE?

B Med Sc is on offer at UNCLE. Any Science degree would be good for graduate med entry.

    Science Degrees

Re: Med Sci, Advanced Sci of Specific Science Degree? BMedSc has more major on offer than BSc (Molecular Biology and Genetics) at USyd. That's the only difference. No major difference. In UNSW, Adv science are required to take at least two advanced subjects per year. I am pretty sure...

Can you upgrade into Advanced Science from Science?

Just do the same subjects as required for the advanced science major. You can major in anything in Science. the end result on your "certificate" won't make a difference. :)

Anyone here got band 6 in esl?

I doubt 92 will get you a ranking of 8 in ESL. It must have been a mistake. The top mark this year was 97. And 2-3% of the ESL students received a Band 6 result in ESL this year.

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

Not too worry. You can always transfer next year. :) It's unfortunately for you that the cut-off jumped from 89 to 92 this year.

    Transferring to medicine

Yes you can (UNSW MBBS). The uni uses 50% of your first year mark and 50% of your UAI. You will need to sit the UMAT or use your past UMAT results, plus an interview.

    General Education (Gen Ed) FAQ

Yeah I was told I could do 27 UOC but I can never enrol in more than 24 through myunsw.

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

It's not true at all - I've graduated from MedSc and not once I feel like everyone is competing with everyone. Yes, the goal of a proportion of students in MedSc (and Science, Advanced Science) is to get into Medicine, but you also have to consider that the other major proportion of students are...

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

Think of it this way, if you were to enrol in the Advanced Sceince program, there won't be 15 admission places to begin with. And since Adv science = MedSc, you might as well increase your chances of getting into Med by taking MedSc over Adv Sc.
  17. Survivor39

UNSW Med Sci 08: ROLL CALL!

It makes no difference to do MedSc or Adv Science. You will do the SAME subjects except for 1 or 2 subject differences. All of you need to do Biology, chemistry, maths in the first year. The difficulty of maintaining the same mark in both degree is the same. The advantage of doing MedSc is...

    Future UNSW Students Rollcall

WAM = Weighted Average Mark It is the average of all your uni marks for every course. First year is not too bad, especially the first five weeks which is a complete bludge. Then second/third year was bad.

    General Education (Gen Ed) FAQ

It means you have already taken up the max. allowable number of units. You can only do 24 UOC per session. In some cases you can overload, but this requires special permission by the Head of School.
