ARTS and arts in social inquiry

I don't study social inquiry but I am also probably going to do more study once I have finished this degree (either business/commerce or law at this stage).... just because I want to and I think it will increase my employability and give me more options later in life etc. I think that if you...

    cut offs came crashing down!

Some of what Soma says is true, but some is because he didn't like journalism. Yeah there are barely any fairfax things, but you can get junior reporter positions etc or do research work or whatever and work your way up. I think if you really want it you will get it eventually, but I think...

    cut offs came crashing down!

I just got an email in my UTSmail from the journalism faculty.... the cutoff for journalism went down because they have allocated more places to this degree this year due to high demand.

    Moving Out

Centrelink are crazy.... when I went there to ask the guy about youth allowance I told him I went to university in Sydney and my family live in Albury (I was at the Albury office)..... then about 5 minutes later he asked if I lived away from home or not.... hmm pretty big commute....

    Moving Out

I have been living in Syd for a year (700kms from my parents) and I have been working basically full time most of the year to support myself with a bit of help from my parents.... hopefully I should be able to get Youth Allowance in May because I should be classed as independent then.... the...

    cut offs came crashing down!

I think that a major part of it is that communications degrees aren't as much of a fad any more. About 4-5 years ago they were a huge fad and hence the cutoffs were really high. I think one year a while back UTS Journalism cutoff was almost 99! Now the demand for them isn't as strong and...

    Mr Habib released

I don't know how you can say that the papers defamed him by calling him a terrorist when the government basically called him that... they didn't call him an enemy combatant, they called him a suspected terrorist. He was imprisoned because governments thought he was a terrorist. So why are the...

    Good/Bad Employees

lol I agree with you completely.... I've worked with people who have used the phrase "I know my rights" to try and demand a 10 min ciggie break every hour, help themselves to free stuff, get another worker sacked because they didn't like them, etc. Half the time they use the phrase to request...

    Good/Bad Employees

Some people don't even realize they are bad workers.... basically they are just lazy people who seem ok when you hire them (as in they are friendly etc) but then you have to basically crack a whip under their ass continually to get them to do the job they are supposed to be doing.... Also...

What sort of job do I get?

You probably should have tried applying for some of the graduate recruitment type things that the big comapnies offer last year.... Maybe look for a cadetship/traineeship type thing in business because then you can move your way up.....

    UTS social scene..

I don't think UTS social scene is that bad really... considering it is in the middle of the city it doesn't really need to have a huge "on campus" life because you make friends from your faculty and then when you have free time you venture in to the city/haymarket/broadway wherever......

UTS B Business/B Law UAI artificially increased?

I think they mean the previous year's cutoff, not the cutoff for the current year.

    Anyone flown with Aerolineas Argintinas?

I'm going to NZ and I was just curious if anyone had flown Aerolineas before? Is it any good?? Or is it a bit dodgy (liek Vietnam Airlines lol)..... Just curious.....

    Mr Habib released

I mean, if there is nothing they can pin on him, what the hell have they been doing for the past 3 years? I don't know if Habib is guilty or innocent.... basically the public hasn't been given any of the "evidence" so you can't really know (however I believe that the US mustn't have been able...

Do Med students do practicals on corpses?

yes, they are called cadavers (not sure about spelling sorry).... not just med students use them..... occ therapy, physio, speech pathology, health science blah blah blah..... heaps of those sorts of degrees use cadavers.

    writing in contemporary cultures

Um I haven't had a lot published mainly because I was so busy working full time to afford living in Syd that I didn't have a chance to do any "extracurricular" writing/research..... I have had a couple of things published in community newspapers (esp the ones UTS publishes).... hoping that I...

    UTS social scene..

I only went to one UTS party.... it was the commencement party last year and it was like all bollywood music.... it was fairly crappy. Maybe if UTS had a proper bar/nightclub type thing at city the parties would be more popular with the students.... it's pretty dodgy how they just rope off...

    writing in contemporary cultures

If you want to get in to journalism via transfer apparently social inquiry is the most relevent of the communications degrees to journalism. But you should pick what you want to do the most (secondary to journo) because sometimes transfers don't happen.... you can always do journo subjects for...
